Not So Sweet Dreams

6c90bc8e691dcbdd9ddcf76c244d920aI woke up exhausted this morning, not because I didn’t get enough sleep or was awakened during the night, but by the dream I had.  It was a very detailed story of business and investment in a flower growing venture.  Everyone I knew was in this business and had gathered considerable wealth as a consequence. However, a fungus or mold had been attacking the crops lately with devastating effect.  It was discovered that a mere foot print or touch near the growing plant could set loose the pathogen and killing disease.  There was much more to the dream, but that is the gist.

I’m perplexed as to why such a dream would leave me so exhausted.  Turning to the Word of God, I read, “My son, do not let wisdom and understanding

out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion; they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck.  Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble.  When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.” (Prov. 3: 21-24).  This dream had instilled fear within me, fear of failure, losing my investment, and fear of missing out on what everyone around me had enjoyed.  Fear of a looming and potential disaster.  The answer is to keep wisdom and understanding in sight and maintain sound judgment and discretion.

Wisdom is the application of knowledge.  Understanding is making sense of all you hear and perceive.  Sound judgment and discretion is deciding rightly, choosing the wise course and rejecting the foolish way.  God is for us, He is our source, our refuge from the enemy and from all that would bring about our destruction.  He will save us, just as Yeshua came walking on the water in the midst of the storm to rescue His disciples and calm the storm.  Do not fear, our God is faithful to keep His promises.  Yeshua said, “I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more.  But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.  Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies?  Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.  Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Luke 12: 4-7).
