Worrying, Fretting, Angry

Regarding the most recent multi-trillion dollar spending bill to stop global warming, Nancy Pelosi said, “For me, it’s a religious thing. I believe this is God’s creation, and we have a moral obligation to be good stewards. If you don’t share that view, you must share the view that we have an obligation to future generations.” Global warming is a mythical problem which can’t be fixed by politicians spending future generations into captivity to debt which can never be repaid. This irresponsibility, corruption and lunacy can give us cause to worry, fret or get angry about our future.

Yeshua, (Jesus’ Hebrew name) taught that we should not worry saying, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life ? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?” (Luke 12:22-26) God takes care of the birds, us, and the global climate. Believers put their trust in God, but dire circumstances can tempt us to worry.

Moreover, evil people and their schemes can be disconcerting and make us angry. Scripture says, “Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away… Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil…The wicked lie in wait for the righteous, intent on putting them to death; but the Lord will not leave them in the power of the wicked or let them be condemned when brought to trial.” (Psalm 37:1-2, 7-8, 32-33)

There are good reasons not to fret or let anger rise. However, Yeshua calls the Believer to a deeper place, through His indwelling Holy Spirit. “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” (Matthew 5:44-45) This is transformation the Lord seeks in His children, to be perfect  like God in Heaven. We can not do any of this in our own strength, but God is able to do more than we can ask or imagine through His power within us. (Eph. 3:20) Lord Yeshua, release your power of love within us.
