Spiritual Testimony

On Thursday, September 26, 2019 the 700 Club TV show aired an account of a woman who had an abortion when she was in her early twenties.  The doctor told her an abortion was possible, but it would by very painful as she would have to deliver the baby. Afterwards the memory was painful and she was overcome with regret. She shared a recurring image of meeting her daughter in the afterlife and hearing her say, “Mommy, why did you kill me.” She began to consider suicide and as she was slitting her wrist the phone rang and the caller…

Spiritual Sight

Yeshua gave all He had in pursuit of God’s will.  This includes in His conversation with the woman at the well and as He traveled around Israel, healing, delivering, teaching, prophecying, confronting a few, being rejected by many, loving completely in every circumstance.  He kept nothing for Himself and abandoned completely every aspect of His human ego, but He had it and it cried out when the crowds wanted to make Him king and whenever He was reminded of His central purpose at that time, to be the sacrificial lamb. I was thinking about some acquaintances I have and wondering…

In the Depths of Your Heart

Think of all the years of your life, the months and weeks that measure your growth physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Then scan the range of your memories from childhood till now, the events that have made you who you are, your education, relationships, vacations, holidays, achievements, your greatest triumps and the agony of your defeats, failures, struggles and tradegy.  In the midst of these are your desires, wants, needs and dreams, meshed together with the mundane, routine, tasks, chores and daily necessitates of life.  All this is quite a mass of information and the content of living and it’s not…

Is This Between Me and God?

In certain of life’s situations we may ask this question?  It is likely a good question to ask, even before we become desparate or disappointed?  During Gideon’s days Israel was under extreme oppression from rival nations.  An angel appeared to Gideon saying, ” ‘Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand.   Am I not sending you?’ ‘Pardon me, my lord,’ Gideon replied, ‘but how can I save Israel?  My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.’  The Lord answered, ‘I will be with you, and you will…

The Sensitivity of the Spirit

This is the title of a book by R. T. Kendall, including, “Learning to Stay in the Flow of God’s Direction.”  The Holy Spirit is my fascination, He captivates and seldom leaves my consideration, perspective, and longing.  I believe the Holy Spirit is active in the congregation of Believers on earth ever since Yeshua ascended to the Father.  It’s not that Yeshua and the Father are not present, but Yeshua said, “…very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away.  Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I…

More of Yeshua

As much as we know of and about Yeshua’s life and message, Believers yearn to know more of Him.  This is the power and mission of the Holy Spirit to reveal Yeshua in Spiritual dimensions.  That’s what we have with our family and close friends, a spiritual connection across generations, forged from shared life experiences, challenges, emotional highs and lows, unity and commitment that transcends the senses and rational intelect, yet encompasses these also as a minor facet of relationship, yet unnecessary to the eternal enduring whole. Whether we accept it, He is the person who knows us best, completely,…

The Wisdom Drawn from Above

“At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, ‘Ask!  What shall I give you?’ ” I Kings 3:5. Shortly after Solomon was made King God appeared to him and asked him what he desired.  Solomon, acknowledging his inexperience, asked for wisdom, “an understanding heart”, to judge the people, that he could distinguish between good and evil.  This was a request that pleased God.  God not only made Solomon the wisest man in the world (I Kings 4:30) but also gave him riches and honor, making him the greatest and most powerful King in…

Holy Spirit Leading

There is a Spiritual renewal in our day.  Beginning around the turn of this last century and most recently in the 1970’s there has been an awakening to the Holy Spirit’s leadership, presence, and power.  In Israel and America Messianic Jews have been gathering to exalt and proclaim Yeshua Messiah and Lord.  Traditional evangelical churches are turning to spiritual expressions of prayer, worship and guidance.  I saw a quote from from an Episcopal rector regarding how far the church has yet to go in surrender to the Spirit.  On a radio broadcast he said, “If the Holy Spirit were totally…

Reading the Bible

However, whenever, with whatever approach, or state of mind at that time, this is the way to read the Bible.  I have shared that I often just open the Bible (in book format) and start reading.  I might read the whole chapter, one verse, or skip again after some reading, but I most often hear something that struck, awed or comforted me.  I shared this with our new preacher and in his next sermon he warned that this was bad and might lead one into error.  A book I’m reading, echoed the same sentiment and added the same story, that…

A Better Person

The Steinway & Son’s piano company makes a grand piano, model 1037, that is preeminent in the industry.  Construction begins with the outer side wall which consists of very long wide boards laminated and shaped in the classic grand piano curved shape.  Large blocks, clamps, molds, presses, and winches are used to conform and glue the layers of wood into a precise solid consistent shape.  After the side wall is removed from the molding press and clamps it is taken to a conditioning room and left for eight weeks to rest. Piano craftsmanship caused me to consider God’s work in…

A Faithless Struggle

My daughter asked if I could make her a chicken coup.  “Of course”, I said, so I got on the internet and found several basic plans.  I decided to make a nice one, but before I started her husband reminded her that they would not have time for chickens and she cancelled.  I went ahead with the project because it had now become a work of art.   I kept chickens for a while, but my heart was not in it, so I gave the chickens and chicken tractor away.  My heart was in the art.  Is that true in…

Living in Yeshua

“This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit.” (1 John 4: 13). This is an answer to a commonly asked question, that arises again and again, though we may know it at some level.  David, begged the Lord, “Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.” (Psalm 51: 11).  This was after his sins associated with Bathsheba, that required the prophet’s conviction saying, “You are the man.” (2 Sam. 12: 1-13).  It is entirely possible that David was the one who…

Spiritual Sight

She seemed to know well the gist of Christianity, John 3: 16, that is sometimes used as a campaign slogan to reach the lost, but it seemed hollow and standard.  I responded, “The Bible is supernatural, just like God who sent it.”  Then, I made a bold suggestion, that I had once put to myself, “Open the Bible and begin to read as though it were written to you, listening for God’s voice.”  We have a promise, If you sincerely come near God He will come near you. (James 4: 8). We can get into a rut of considering everything…

Faith and Power

As a small child I remembered two scriptural truths that concerned me.  The first was Jesus is coming back to earth.  “For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.” (Matt. 24: 27).  I couldn’t specify the reference, but I knew Jesus was coming from the sky.  The other related to judgment which would begin with His return.  “I tell you, whoever publicly acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man will also acknowledge before the angels of God.  But whoever disowns me before others…

Believers Driving Cabs

The skies were sunny amid a light warm breeze as we disembarked our cruise ship.  At port in Roatan we caught a cab to the West End beach.  Our driver was very friendly and shared with us how many believers were on the island in various churches. As we drove by the small houses most Americans would consider shacks, our driver expressed his gratefulness for being able to live in a tropical paradise.  He had a six month old baby girl and life was good because God is a loving merciful God. The next day our ship stopped at Belize…

A Song From God

I asked God to give me a song with which to praise Him. I wanted it to be deep and significant, rather than fluff. I realize I’m not a musician, but I have a love for music, worship, and God is not limited in His ability to give me a song for His glory. I…

Worship He Deserves

The heavenly beings surround God’s throne and worship Him with the highest of praises, bowing in surrender before Him. (Rev. 4: 4-11).  Yeshua, the Son of Man and only human to know God fully said that He seeks worshipers who worship Him in Spirit and truth. (John 4: 23).  It is fitting that men worship God along with the rest of Heaven and creation.  It was in deliverance of Israel from captivity that God called His people to worship. (Ex. 4: 23; 7: 16; 8: 1, 20).  To this day God seeks worshipers.  In worship the Spirit within each believer…

Hidden Motives

Do you ever question your motives?  At what point in the process of thinking, planning, preparing, initiating, working, and completing do you consider your motives?  Is your consideration an actual questioning of something uncertain or is it justifying the obvious.  It appears to me that our motives can be buried, one upon another, in a pile that must be sorted out to get to the bottom.  For example, we may think of something we want, maybe we need it to some extent, or not; in and of itself it may be neither good nor bad; it may be related to…

Yeshua’s Mission In A Few Words

To describe completely all that Messiah Yeshua (Christ Jesus Hebrew name) accomplished, did, was, and is would take more books than the whole world could contain. (John 21:25).  However, Isaiah offers a very encouraging description of it in a few verses;  “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.  He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our…

Love God And Evidence Salvation By Keeping His Commandments

“If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.” John 14:23. “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” John 14:26. These verses are written in the context of Jesus telling his disciples that he was going back to Heaven to prepare a place for him.  However, to believers, he has left behind the Holy Spirit

The Gifts of the Word of Knowledge and Wisdom

“For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit….”  I Corinthians 12:8. These are two related Gifts of the Spirit that are not directly defined in scripture but are clearly speaking gifts from the use of “word”. The Greek word for knowledge used here means simply knowledge and understanding. The Greek word for wisdom means the application of knowledge and understanding.  Therefore, knowledge focuses on a gift of understanding the deep-truths of Scripture

The Gift Of Administration

“And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.”                     I Corinthians 12:28. The Greek word for the spiritual gift of administration or governments is a unique term that refers to a shipmaster or captain, one who steers a ship.  It is a gift of being able to guide people toward a common goal or destination.  The Holy Spirit enables those with this gift to organize and lead others in various ministries

Be Devoted To Prayer

Be devoted to prayer is the exhortation in Colossians 4:2.  You will find this a very simple thing do to as you walk and live in the leading of the Holy Spirit.  As with many things Spiritual, we have believed lies that it was either a concentrating strained effort or else a drudgery. On the contrary, praying in the Spirit is as natural to a born again Spirit filled believer as being joyful and awake.  In our own fleshly effort it would be a poor excuse for effective prayer. Scripture encourages us to pray constantly, (Acts 1:4, Thess. 1:11).…

The Gift of Discerning of Spirits

“For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.” I Corinthians 12:8-10. The Gift of Discernment of Spirits is the capacity to distinguish the source of a spiritual manifestation – whether it emanates from a good or evil spirit.  All…

The Gift of Faith

“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit…” I Corinthians 12:7-9. The gift of faith mentioned here as one of the Gifts of the Spirit is not specifically defined in Scripture.  This gift is to be distinguished from saving faith given to all believers and is apparently a gift whereby the Spirit provides Christians with extraordinary assurance that God will answer their prayers…
