Prayer Note

I kept thinking about my friend and brother in the Lord while I went about my business. When I ran an errand, when I helped the neighbor, and as I was cutting firewood; so I decided to call and find out what was happening with my friend. As soon as I asked, he described the surgery on his neck, yesterday, and though all went well he was facing a long period of recuperation. I encouraged him and told him I would be in prayer for his health.

I believe the Holy Spirit calls us to pray at times for our friends, circumstances and spiritual events. As I pondered the love of God for His children, I realized that gratitude and thanksgiving is just as important as intercession. God is in front of everything we face, know, and encounter. His purposes in using and specifically drawing His children into affairs which He alone can accomplish is both mysterious and marvelous.

Yeshua glorified the Father saying, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.” (Matthew 11: 25). In this same glorious manner, Father God uses weak, broken, and humble Believers to tear down strongholds and everything that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. (2 Cor. 10: 4-5). All glory belongs and goes to Father God, even Yeshua gave all glory to the Father, saying He could do nothing on His own. Blessings, Honor, and Glory belong to God Almighty.

When David was confronted by Nathan he confessed, “I have sinned” and Nathan replied, “The Lord has taken away your sin.” (2 Sam. 12: 13). The Lord is in front of everything we face, even our need to receive forgiveness. When we encounter various circumstances it may be helpful to remember that God was there before we arrived. In the same way, Yeshua’s sacrifice for our sins precedes us, “For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says: ‘This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.’ Then he adds: ‘Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.’ And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.” (Hebrews 10: 14-18). Praise God who goes before His people like a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night; He has never forsaken His people.

God’s Leading Presence

A pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night was there for the Israelites.  Where is the presence of the Lord today and what assurance and leading is given to the people of God today?  From the beginning God desired relationship with mankind.  He walked in the garden with Adam and Eve.  After the fall, God spoke to the prophets and granted favor to Abraham and Noah.  He spoke with Moses as one man speaks to another.  He was with the judges of Israel and found in David a man after His own heart.  God did nothing without telling the prophets what was about to come.  The full story of Yeshua Messiah was foretold in great detail by the prophets, His birth, ministry, triumphant entry into Jerusalem and all the details of his death on the cross, and resurrection.

What was God’s purpose in foretelling the coming of Israel’s Messiah?  The prophecy  was very specific detailing that He would be betrayed by a friend.(Ps. 41: 9).  That His clothes would be divided and gambled for. (Ps. 22: 18).  That He would be a descendant of David and born in Bethlehem. (1 Chron. 17: 11-13; Micah 5: 2).  The Pharisees knew these prophecies, but we’re unable to see in Yeshua their fulfillment. (Matt. 22: 41-45).  Like everything in all creation prophecy is for the exaltation and glory of God.

The pillar of cloud and fire led Israel though the wilderness, but God’s intention is for His people to dwell in a promised good land flowing with provision, rather than a wilderness.  Moreover, God’s temple is in the hearts of His people.  We were made for this purpose to hold within our innermost being God’s presence and be in communion with Him and all who are transformed into the likeness of Yeshua Messiah.  So, it is not an external manifested pillar of cloud and fire that we look to, but the One perfect human superior to every created thing in whom is the supremacy and the image of the invisible God. To us He has revealed this glorious mystery, Messiah Yeshua in us, our hope of Glory.  We have God’s own Son, Yeshua and indwelling Holy Spirit who leads us and assures us today.  He leads us to lie down in green pastures, beside still waters, refreshing our soul along paths of righteousness. (Ps. 23: 1-3).
