There is a battle waging over connections that exist, new connections and none at all. Everyone understands the significance of being connected whether it is in marriage or to one’s cell phone. There are a myriad of connections physical, emotional and spiritual, among these some are trivial or casual, others foundational and essential which each person nurtures or abandons according to their own personality, desire and outside forces. The concept of our connectedness was portrayed as a central theme in the Avatar movies, Netflix’s Manifest TV series, and in your iPhone’s statistics on screen time monitoring. A lot of mental health revolves around our associations or lack thereof. The Christian faith promotes the significance of connection with God through Jesus Christ via the indwelling Holy Spirit. Some Eastern religions propose connections leading to a state of harmony in nirvana, nothingness. Hell is depicted in C.S. Lewis’ book, “The Great Divorce” has being infinitely separated from God with no connection to anyone, which is based loosely on scripture.
Where is the battle being fought? Some suggest it is on the battlefield of the human mind and while this is a critical battleground the war is going on in society, politics, religion, media; internationally through weapons and armed forces, upon streets by criminals and through the internet before your face. A war requires at least two combatants which are seen in spiritual reality between Satanic forces and Mankind. You might think to include God, but He is above it all and kicked Satan out of Heaven to earth with a flick of His finger. Moreover, this war is waged in time and God transcends time. This war is about severing all connection between Man and God and the connections He ordains between humans; which is the essence of Hell, where Satan and his followers are destined to be eternally doomed.
God made mankind for relationship with Himself. (John 17:6-23) Yeshua came to restore the connection that was broken in the fall of man through our rebellion. After His sacrifice which made atonement, He imparted the Holy Spirit to all Believers, the most essential connection of all. There are still transient connections with God with those who do not believe through God’s mercy in providing for His creation. However, these are not eternal, but temporal connections provided to all humans. For example, God gives rain, sunshine, and natural resources to everyone and He restrains evil. (2 Thess. 2:7) Moreover, He established institutions of marriage, government, family, and nations for the order and well being of all mankind. (Rom. 13:1-4) Satan seeks to break these connections and all others to cause destruction and death, as no one can survive alone. If mankind has one instinctive need it is to be connected physically, mentally and spiritually with others and his Creator, God.
