“Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.” (Psalms 86:11)
David was a man after God’s own heart. (Acts 13:22; 1 Sam. 13:14) This meant that David would obey God’s instructions, unlike Saul who ignored and reinterpreted them. Nevertheless, David fell into great sin with Bathsheba and structured the death of her husband, Uriah. (2 Sam. 11:1-27) David considered he had taken Bathsheba legitimately upon the death of her husband and forget all he had done and what was in his heart. We are no different, though we may not have the power to arrange a persons death. Yeshua taught that whatever you think in your heart is equivalent to actually doing it. (Matt. 5:22-28) We cannot hide anything from God everything is open and laid bare before Him. God sent Nathan the prophet to confront David with his sin. Nathan told him an allegory of a man who did what David had done to Uriah. “David burned with anger against the man and said to Nathan, ‘As surely as the Lord lives, the man who did this must die!’ Then Nathan said to David, ‘You are the man!’ ” (2 Samuel 12:5, 7) David was convicted of his sin and though God forgave him, He brought judgment upon him through his children.
We cannot continue with a divided heart before God, who is jealous to have our full devotion. He will not leave us in our delusions, but will shine His light upon us to illuminate our sin so we may confess, repent and renew our undivided devotion to God. “Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.”
(John 3:20-21) Yeshua brought light into the world, so that Believers should not stay in darkness. (John 12:46) He will deliver us just as He has promised to deliver and save Israel in the future. “I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.” (Ezekiel 11:19) This promise is available now to all who Believe in Yeshua. We need the Holy Spirt to live a life pleasing to God as His Children and heirs together with Yeshua. (Rom. 8:1-17) Lord, give us an undivided heart with repentance and revival so that we will be wholly devoted to You.
