“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.” (Psalms 23:1)
We were talking about the chickens and bees we keep and agreed bees are far more difficult. Shepherding is not simply about feeding, sheltering, protecting and caring for one’s herd, it is fundamentally understanding the animals/insects one is raising. Even in keeping a pet you begin to understand the need to know your pets needs. David understood this as a shepherd boy tending sheep and applied it to the Lord’s care for His people. This entire concept has become distant to modern man as we lose our connection to the source of our provision. Who is your shepherd? Are you on your own? Has your education, experience, trade, profession become your source of life? The world will seek to affirm that the government, society, economy or your skills are your provider, but is it true?
“He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate— bringing forth food from the earth: wine that gladdens human hearts, oil to make their faces shine, and bread that sustains their hearts.” (Psalms 104:14-15) As this scripture indicates our Creator provides for all our needs, physical, emotional and Spiritual. To understand Him more fully He came as Messiah, in human form, Yeshua, the Son of God. “The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:15-17)
Understanding this may be a starting point for faith and seeing the truth. As we humble ourselves recognizing our frailty, neediness, and reliance upon a higher power so greater than any words can describe, but who reached down to make himself known to us on our level with the essence of our desires and needs – love. God has destined us for more than seventy years or so on earth, He has put eternity within us, so we can understand and long for more than a temporal existence. He calls us to infinity, eternity and immortality. He desires a relationship with each of us, unending in perfections light. Just one small example of Heaven’s design illustrates it is made for us, “On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month.” (Revelation 22:1; Ezekiel 47:12) God knows the delight of springtime and harvest and in His Kingdom it comes monthly, rather than once a year.
