“They will say, ‘Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”
Many Believe in Yeshua and some forget He will come again. Its not that they don’t know He will come back, but it seems far off, too distant to comprehend. What if we knew He would return within seven years? How would we live if we thought His return could happen within three years? What would we do if we believed He would return in less than a year? Are we to live as though He was returning soon?
“The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.” (Luke 3:9) I know something about cutting down trees. It is very dangerous because of the uncertainty about when and where it will actually fall, even as you are cutting it. Hollow or rotten trees can snap any time and fall in unforeseen directions. Nevertheless, when a tree is cut it begins to lean under its weight, the wind, or with use of wedges. This process starts very slow, but then it speeds up and very rapidly falls with a tremendous crash of terrific force. Like this, I believe the second coming will pick up speed during the wars and rumors of war. I believe earthquakes, tsunamis, and natural disasters will speed His coming in that the actual return seems sudden. “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief.” (2 Peter 3:8) If we ignore the leaning and the first movement it may be too late to react.
The new covenant scriptures are written with an anticipation of His imminent return. This could give one cause to scoff after two thousand years. “But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.” (2 Peter 3:4) A thousand years in one day is 1/365250. That is so fast it would seem instant. Yeshua’s return is certain, moreover, the end will come afterwards. “The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.” (2 Peter 3:10) If you are complacent about the end times, scripture encourages, “Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming…” (2 Peter 3:11-12)
