Finding Yeshua

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

Believers want more of God. We have Him dwelling within our innermost being, but even that is not enough and fans a fire that burns for the “All Consuming Fire.” (Heb. 12:29) We reason how to achieve this by doing some good deed to please Him or bring Him near. Mary found a place at His feet, to which He said was best and would not be taken from her. (Luke 10:42) We imagine various acts of piety that will be acceptable to God. Scripture says that God demands us to Believe and Acknowledge that He is God. (Rom. 14:11) The disciples were not satisfied with the faith they had as they walked with Him and asked for more. He replied that a little faith can move mountains and they should recognize that after they have done all their duty, they are merely unworthy servants. (Luke 17:6-10) The rich young ruler sought a deed worthy of God’s approval and Yeshua told Him to give away his wealth and follow Him. (Mark 10:21)

In our seeking God do we forget who He is? He owns the cattle on a thousand hills and doesn’t need ours. He can do anything with one spoken word. He is everywhere and promised to never leaves us. While we were lost, dying in sin, He gave Himself for us by death on a cross. In physical space and time it happened two thousand years ago, yet it remains as relevant and powerful an act as if it happened just for us in this present moment. He has asked us to believe upon Him. Can we  continue believing?

It is right to want more eternal substance, as it is the journey on which our path leads. If we want more it starts and ends in His presence with belief. Martha and Mary’s beloved brother, Lazarus, died while they waited for Yeshua to come with healing. Four days too late, Martha expressed her hopes that were now dashed in death’s grief. “Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask”…Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this? “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”

(John 11:21-22, 25-27) Are we believing today?
