Secret Power

“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 6:1)

This is a critical aspect of Yeshua’s ministry and opposite from the world’s practice. Have you seen coworkers who worked late to be seen by the boss? Have you seen people who curried favor with management or executives in order to be rewarded, we called it “kissing up”.  Politicians, our public servants, put themselves forward and get on stage to be seen. Worldly people generate notoriety, act out, wear clothes that draw attention and say shocking things, just to be noticed.

God deserves all honor, glory and praise, because everything is from Him and to Him. (Rom. 11:36) For anyone to seek their own honor is damaging to the good God wants to bring.  Believers follow Yeshua’s example of humility and inconspicuous unobtrusiveness. (Isa. 42:2, Matt. 12:19)  God calls us to humility because it is right and best, He knows pride is in the heart of Man. “Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name. But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people. He did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person.” (John 2:23-25)

Recently, I had a personal revelation which I believed was from God. I wanted to share it, but I couldn’t without putting my hands on it and damage the message. I knew the indispensability of humility, but I compromised it with my action and it evaporated like fine mist in the sun.

The act of giving must involve faith, letting go, trusting that God will take it, use it, multiple it, transform it to something life-giving – such is His touch. Is it any wonder His law has so many rules regarding what can and cannot be touched. God is pleased to deliver, heal, set free, provide for and restore, as He calls us to join in His work. It is essential that our part is aligned with His ways and means. “But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” (Matt. 6:3-4) Cast your bread on the seas and it will return. (Eccl. 11:1, NKJV) Employ faith in God through secret prayer and humility; trust his word, timing, almighty power and unconditional love. This promise is for all who believe.
