There is no end to the seeming multitude of delusions plaguing modern America. Some are Historic, such as Atheism, Agnosticism, Materialism, Hedonism, and these have their variants, but widespread delusion such as we have never seen appears to be loosed in society. To be fair, perceptions have as much to do with this topic as reality. We are saturated by digital images and sounds, our sight and auditory nerves are overloaded and vexed interpreting visions and sounds which bombard our mind with confusion. Let’s just say, truth lives and still sets us free, if freedom is what we seek. History is full of truth and light, Solomon’s Proverbs are no less visceral than when he first uttered them. Can the quality of truth be diminished? No, our epidemic of delusion (which is not yet pandemic) has little to do with truth or any virtue. Delusion is not the absence of truth, which is ignorance and foolishness. The remedy of ignorance is education and knowledge. The remedy of foolishness is suffering, pain, and discipline.
Delusion is a false belief or judgement about reality, in spite of incontrovertible evidence to the contrary, as in mental illness. A good example of this can be observed in victims of sexual abuse who are so severely impacted they reject factual reality out of fear and pain. These abused women cannot exhibit normal responses in normal circumstances because trauma and fear have them bound and blind; their actions are contrary to reality. No amount of factual explanation reasoning or proof is effective against such delusion. Similarly, delusion in our society cannot be relieved by logic, reason, facts, history or the simple truth of reality.
The delusion promoted in American society is not the product of abuse, even if one case could be found that was. This delusion is inherent in the fallen human nature and like mental illness and sexual perversion it has existed throughout human history, but it is not therefore normal, good, beneficial, or right, any more than rape, murder, or war are good. This delusion is sourced in the essential weakness of human conscience. We all are utterly dependent on so many physical, emotional, mental, soul, spiritual levels that cause us to be critically venerable. Our enemy has also existed throughout history and well known as satan, the devil. He is the source of delusion in America. He has capitalized upon societies rejection of Judeo-Christian defenses and restraints. He has no authority other than what is given by people themselves.
The remedy for delusion in America is a return to Yeshua, Messiah (Jesus’ Hebrew name). “…The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.” (1 John 3:8)
