Resignation

This is giving up or retiring a position or acceptance of some thing undesirable, but inevitable. These two meanings fit together like a zipper. Consider Yeshua who knew He faced unjust death and betrayal by a friend. Is there anything in scripture that guards us from anything Yeshua experienced? When scripture says we are in a process of being conformed into His image; when we are included as disciples who follow in His paths; when He is our example, mentor, leader, and closest friend with whom we have intimate fellowship; where is the assurance that our path will not follow His? Clearly, our temporal interests and comfort is not the essential characteristic of our affirmation as Believers.

Yeshua tread the path which we may very likely see before our feet. Our rationale withdraws and objects at crucification upon a cross, but what if there is a cross fit for our faith, destiny and purpose? Yeshua was perfect, spotless, filled with the Spirit of God. His purpose was foretold thousands of years in advance. His purpose was to redeem Israel and God’s children from the nations. What is your purpose? What will the world demand because you stand upon the purposes for which Yeshua called you, giving you His deposit of faith specifically for your destiny in Him? Did you think friendship with Yeshua was different from any other?

When I was in College, Yeshua filled me with the Holy Spirit and my “so called” friends no longer shared my interests, so I left them for Yeshua, freedom, love, peace, hope, a new family, awakening to Spiritual life, the presence of almighty God and much more. Giving up the miserable chase for pleasure as a substitution for satisfaction was not that difficult. Now fifty years later, I am beset with spiritual foes and some of the things Yeshua experienced, like betrayal and and injustice. Resignation is exactly the right response to what He faced. Moreover, He didn’t do it in failure, but triumph. He demonstrated His faith, destiny and victory in and through God’s purposes.

Our resignation is giving up confidence in our strength, ability, and desires in exchange for God’s will and purpose because we have faith, fellowship, friendship and hope that God’s hand is upon everything we encounter and endure, even in humiliation, theft, and/or harm in this physical existence. To resign ourselves apart from God may be admirable in a particular situation, but anything we do for His sake is transformed from a temporal act to Spiritual purpose and that endures beyond time and space.
