“‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”” (Revelation 21:4)
Fear of loss came over me like a dark cloud, blocking the sunlight. It was accompanied by a lie that God allows tragedy to strike, and therefore, He is behind it. While I didn’t accept this premise, I acknowledged the reality that the world is full of sorrow, pain, and death. Losing something as precious as a loved one would bring immense sadness, weeping, and all sorts of collateral damage to relationships, peace, and the future.
I turned to the Lord and His Word, finding the truth in Psalm 121:7 “The Lord will keep you from all harm. He will watch over your life.” Like a fresh breeze parting the clouds of fear, God’s love and sovereignty settled my timid heart. God is loving, and our family belongs to Him – it is His vision of beauty. He holds everything in His loving hands. “The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” (Ps. 121:8) The Lord is building His own family, which will one day occupy heaven and dwell in His presence before God the Father. There is no fear in love, and we are surrounded by His love.
Fear is a response to uncertainty, lingering near the problems, riddles, and confusion that our minds wrestle with. But a new order is coming, not the one promised by political leaders, but one heavenly in nature and filled with heaven’s light. It is the opposite of the secular humanist utopia imagined by men. Fear is a foreign concept to the follower of Yeshua. He said, “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Luke 12:32-34)
Our faith is rooted in God, His Word, the love of the Holy Spirit, and the character revealed through our Lord and King, Yeshua. The full revelation of this faith, which we only see in part now, will one day be fully revealed in heaven before the presence of our glorious Father God. This assurance, found in the Spirit, leads us in love, enabling us to abandon the trappings and distractions of this world’s “old order” that will pass away with death, crying, pain, mourning, and fear.
