I asked AI whether it can prevent propaganda. The numbered points are its response with my comments following:
- Fact-Checking and Verification: AI can analyze and cross-check information against trusted sources in real-time to verify facts and identify misinformation. Tools like automated fact-checking systems can flag or reject false claims before they spread.
We saw fact checking in the presidential debates, where ABC News moderators fact checked Trump’s comments on Haitian migrant’s in Ohio. The propagandist ABC Democrat operative cited the town mayor saying that he was not aware of any complaints. Many facts are frequently in dispute as evidenced even in Court. Fact checkers claiming to be trusted sources have been shown to be fundamentally biased, such as News-guard, ABC News, CBS News, CNN and others which are Democrat political organizations.
2. Identifying Manipulative Language: AI can be trained to detect language that is designed to manipulate or evoke strong emotional reactions. By analyzing rhetoric, AI could spot inflammatory or divisive content that is often used in propaganda.
Strong emotions are not necessarily bad, biased or incorrect. People supporting each team in a sporting event will be emotional for their team against the opposition. Merely, appearing calm and consensual is not a valid measure of either prejudicial, manipulative or divisive intent. In fact, certain so called experts will usually fain an intellectual or sophisticated manner to disguise there own bias.
3. Tracking and Flagging Disinformation Campaigns: AI can monitor social media and news outlets to identify patterns of coordinated disinformation campaigns. This could include detecting fake accounts, bots, and organized efforts to spread propaganda.
Current efforts to expose organized efforts of legacy media propaganda have been largely ineffective, as many organizations are free to organize. For example, it has been shown that legacy media share and promote their bias with uniform phrases and talking points. The propagandists will not freely admit their bias, organization, collusion or conspiracy. For example, they all fiercely promoted the “Russian hoax” that was created, funded, and used against Donald Trump by Hillary Clinton and Democrat organizations. Moreover, they colluded to silence the Hunter Biden laptop evidence with impunity. Social media is merely public talk and anyone can participate with opinions whether true or not, so any analysis thereof will be biased by definition. Detecting fake accounts and bots could be of some benefit.
4. Promoting Diverse and Credible Sources: AI algorithms can prioritize content from a variety of reputable and balanced sources, helping to reduce the dominance of extremist or biased viewpoints in users’ media consumption.
“Diversity” of sources or “balanced” sources will not reduce the dominance of extremist or biased viewpoints, but it could commingle truth with fiction. Ensuring that only a small amount of poison is included in the water we drink is not an acceptable solution. Diversity is no measure of accuracy, truth or value. Having every possible color included in a work of art has no bearing on its beauty and most likely would destroy it. Likewise, Balance assumes a compromise which almost never yields the best solution, no one would support a moon expedition that reached halfway there. These terms sound good, but are not.
5. Encouraging Critical Thinking: AI can be used in educational tools to help users develop critical thinking skills. By offering users context, evidence, and alternative viewpoints, AI can encourage people to question the content they encounter and not take things at face value.
I think there may be some merit in this statement which has very little to do with AI. We should question things and seek truth. With help from above we may find the truth and expose the lie.
6. Transparency of AI-Generated Content: As AI is increasingly used to create content, AI itself can be programmed to label content that is AI-generated, providing users with the ability to distinguish between human-created and AI-created material. This transparency can help users identify potential biases or manipulations.
This is an interesting proposal, which may have some merit, until and unless AI becomes wholly designated “reputable” irrespective of its shortcomings and flaws as explained above.
7. Filter Bubbles and Echo Chambers: AI could be used to break out of filter bubbles by offering diverse content and pushing back against algorithms that silo users into ideological groups. Promoting a broader range of perspectives can reduce the impact of echo chambers that reinforce propaganda.
Algorithms that filter, silo, order, censor or group content are definitive elements of propaganda. Nazi and Communists propaganda against the Jews and anti-communists, respectively, was enforced by State coercion, oppression, repression and violence. Freedom of thought, religion and speech is fundamental to truth. Our founders recognized that Government could be the greatest enemy of liberty and truth. Therefore, it is not the author or protector of our rights; God is the author and the people under Him the protector.
While AI can play an important role in preventing propaganda, it’s also important to remember that AI must be carefully regulated and designed to avoid bias and ensure ethical use.
Said in a human way: AI can prevent propaganda, if propaganda were preventable with AI.
