A Mind Set on Things Above

But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:4-7

If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:1-2 

One of the most wonderful Truths for Believers is that we have now been positionally resurrected to sit with Christ in the heavenly places. Only in the ages to come will we experience this physically but in our present earthly state we have a new, powerful life and position. This demands we have a new set of values. Before trusting in Christ, we were among the rest of the world caught in our fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of our flesh and thoughts (Ephesians 2:1-3). But now, seeing we have been raised with Christ, we need to set our heart/mind on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.

In our past life, we had no power not to act on our fleshly thoughts. But, as Believers, we should set our mind on heavenly things, on godly things. We are to live like a citizen of Heaven even while still living on earth. As we move our affections to things of Heaven this will help weaken our affection to things of earth. Seek implies here not an investigation but an effort to obtain. This effort involves keeping our thought life pure, on things above where our home is at.

As Christians, God has already raised us up spiritually to be seated with Christ in the heavenly places. Let us live the truth of this fact in our earthly lives.
