The Bright Path of the Just

“But the path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day. The way of the wicked is like darkness; They do not know what makes them stumble. Proverbs 4:18

“Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6

Proverbs 4:18 tells us that a righteous person’s life path is one that shines brighter and clearer until we reach perfection in eternity, similar to how the faint light of dawn grows stronger until midday. This will be reflected in growing understanding, happiness, and closeness to God that comes with living a righteous life. We will stumble along the way but we will get back up and proceed down the pathway of light that God has set before us (Proverbs 24:16). The more often we choose to walk in the Spirit by faith the more growth and light we will see and more quickly. Conversely, the one without faith in God is walking in darkness and continually stumbles not having light to be able to see how to stand properly.

I believe one of the great deceptions of Satan is that he uses Believer’s failings against them to convince them that they will never amount to much for God causing them to grow weak in faith. This lie is absolutely false. We have no good thing in us, our best is nothing but filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). Our duty is simply to have faith in our holy God to begin a good work in us himself and He will complete it. Our bright noonday ahead and increasingly brighter days before eternity are completely the responsibility of God, if we have true faith in Him, and impossible without that faith.

We need to preserve our souls by maintaining our faith in God to the end. We cannot be of those who shrink back and are destroyed (Hebrews 10:39). Our continued faith in God will not only ensure our salvation but will help us have brighter spiritual days and stumble less. Our faith will unlock God’s power in our life through our indwelling Holy Spirit. As salvation is solely a work of God’s grace, sanctification in this life is also solely a work of God’s grace. Our security comes from our faith in understanding and accepting the grace of God, rather than relying on our personal efforts.
