Your Values

It has been suggested that each of us have our own “values” which we live by, and failing to live in accord with these values is wrong.

Scripture contrast human wisdom with God’s wisdom. It states that what seems foolish to the world is actually God’s wisdom and that believers should not rely solely on human knowledge. (1 Corinthians 1:18-25)

God’s word warns against being taken captive by philosophy and empty deceit. It encourages believers to be rooted in Christ rather than in human traditions or philosophies. (Colossians 2:8)

A well-known passage advises believers to “trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” It emphasizes the importance of relying on God’s guidance in all decisions. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

God emphasizes that His thoughts and ways are higher than those of humans. This serves as a reminder that human intellect is limited and cannot fully grasp divine wisdom. (Isaiah 55:8-9)

Scripture contrasts earthly wisdom, which is selfish and unspiritual, with heavenly wisdom, which is pure and peaceable. Believers are encouraged to seek wisdom from above rather than merely relying on human intellect. While intellectual pursuits can be valuable, they should never replace faith or reliance on God’s wisdom and understanding. (James 3:13-17)

Believers are instructed not to conform to the patterns of this world but to be transformed by the renewing of their minds. This highlights the importance of seeking God’s will rather than relying on worldly wisdom. (Romans 12:2)

Scripture warns against putting trust in princes or human leaders, emphasizing that their plans can come to nothing. It encourages trust in the Lord, who is eternal and steadfast. (Psalm 146:3-4)

Paul advises Timothy to guard the deposit entrusted to him and to avoid irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge. This indicates that some forms of knowledge lead away from the truth of the faith. (1 Timothy 6:20-21)

“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” It emphasizes that human reasoning can lead astray, underscoring the need for divine guidance. (Proverbs 14:12)

Jesus thanks the Father for revealing truths to the simple rather than the wise, illustrating that God’s truth is often hidden from those who rely solely on human intellect. (Matthew 11:25)

Scripture clearly instructs believers to prioritize their faith and reliance on God’s wisdom over human understanding and intellect. The idea of choosing ones own values of right and wrong is utter folly. The cacophony of voices asserting new norms of righteousness, apart from God is foolishness.
