Jobs, Post AI

Many people are saying that full integration of AI will eliminate jobs that exists now causing an unemployment crisis. Some are already turning to socialism’s answer, guaranteeing support for the unemployable. Everyone agrees that software/computer related fields will still be necessary, presumably to assist implement AI.

While the Job market is always  changing due to technological advancements, if we consider the nature of many newly created jobs, there is reason to expect that AI itself will spawn new niches of employment. Whether the jobs will be highly compensated, desirable or not is a much more difficult question.

For example, on-time delivery of groceries and restaurant food is a recent development. If transportation costs increase these businesses and related jobs may increase. Private ride sharing such as Uber is a recent development which created new business for drivers. Granted AI may eventually takeover driving, but it is an example of adaptation.

If we consider ancient civilization that boasted a flagrant upper class of non-workers, such as Rome and Greece, there were innumerable “servants” for all sorts of jobs and serviced, many supporting social luxury. Our manufacturing consumer driven societies exalted assembly lines, plants and factories. Future workers will do things machines can’t do and with far more adaptability. For example, machines cannot nurture and care for children. Communist Russia tried to mass produce infant care and it was a disaster. The 19th Century English employed massive numbers of tutors, butlers, maids and governesses. With the success of home schooling there may be new services provided by people with AI knowledge.

The need for maintenance, installation and construction has never stopped and may be highly compensated jobs in the future. Finally, the fields of art and design will be impacted by AI, but will artists be eliminated, if photography has not done so? Arts are ever evolving and continue to create new avenues sought by the public. Even copying and adaptation cannot replace the unique content providers we call artists.

Manufacturing labor in America subsided after the 60’s and service industries expanded to fill the void. It maybe sad to point out, but our advanced society needs more security, police, audit, investigators and protection than ever. While AI will change and certainly enhance these services, it is naive to think it will replace human elements.

Those who envision socialism as a solution for AI’s influence over the Job market are the same ones that will submit to and welcome “Big Brother” in a future “1984” nightmare. The Bible teaches that God provides for His children and everyone in the world, rather than secular government and human machinery. Atheist Communistic societies fail and cause poverty exactly because they refuse the truth and blessing of God’s ways and sovereignty.
