“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me…”. The Jews who heard these words were again divided. Many of them said, “He is demon-possessed and raving mad. Why listen to him?” But others said, “These are not the sayings of a man possessed by a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?” (John 10:14, 19-21)
People are divided regarding Yeshua’s words and deeds. This is not based on reason, analysis, facts or reality. It is based on a fundamental principle of God – some are chosen, saved, responsive and made worthy by God Himself while others pursue evil. (Rom. 2:7-8) It is interesting that some of the major attributes of God seem to be those most disputed. Why is this? God created the universe, which is obvious and the only plausible explanation. (Rom. 1:19-20) God is Sovereign, omnipotent, good, loving/merciful, and supernatural/miracle working. All this is revealed in human history, the Bible, and by Yeshua Messiah (God in human flesh). Nevertheless, His basic nature and existence is questioned, denied, argued, distorted and rejected by worldly people.
The Bible is clear that God distinguishes the “Saved” from the “Lost”. Israel, God’s chosen example to reveal and demonstrate His nature, is itself resistant, divided, and distinguished. “For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel. Nor because they are his descendants are they all Abraham’s children.” (Romans 9:6-7) God’s purpose in election is the revelation of His Sovereignty, compassion and mercy. (Rom. 9:11-27) Yeshua acknowledged it saying to those who rejected Him, “but you do not believe because you are not my sheep.” (John 10:26)
How do we respond? We recognize all have sinned and fall short of God’s standard. We should not be surprised that the enemy spreads lies or that his followers accept the lie instead of the truth. We have nothing in common or any fellowship with those of the world, but affirm that God is the judge, rather than us. We are saved by grace and believe because we have been born- again by the Holy Spirit. (Rom. 8;4-6, 14)
In everything and every way God is and will show Himself both righteous and just, merciful and compassionate. In His election of saints to glory and sinners to wrath. Today, the lines of demarcation seem more stark than ever. As Believers our destiny and lives are fixed on our Lord, Yeshua. We do not live in fear or darkness and rejoice in the truth.
