I am a 62 year old devout conservative Christian. I worked 31 years as a tax professional and recently retired. I became a Christian at age six and have been studying the Bible my entire life. I am editor of this blog and started it to present a defense of the traditional conservative Biblical worldview.

The Correct Position

three-men-in-fiery-furnace-39474-wallpaperI was recently reading Daniel 3:16-18 which tells the story about Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.  They told King Nebuchadnezzar that they would not bow down and worship his golden image and further that they had a God who could save them from the furnace of fire – which was the penalty for refusal.  They went on to say “But even if he does not (save us), let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you  have set up.”  These godly men were so different from many we see today as they did not follow the “politically correct” way, as all but them and Daniel…

Ghosts in Hell

hqdefaultC. S. Lewis stated in his book Mere Christianity that “Each day we are becoming a creature of splendid glory or one of unthinkable horror.”  In his book Perelandra Lewis describes how the Garden of Eden scene might have played out on another planet.  A character in the book, Professor Weston, becomes demon possessed and thereafter loses an independent personality as he becomes controlled by Satan and eventually becomes indistinguishable from Satan.  Weston plays the role of tempter of the Eve character (the Lady of Perelandra) and is described as the Un-man.

Lewis describes Weston…

A Quiet Life

imagesThere are a number of verses in the Bible that command us to lead a quiet life, to provide for ourselves and to mind our own business.   I Thes 4:11 encourages a Christian to  lead a quiet life, to mind their own business, and to work with their own hands.  II Thes 3:12 commands a Christian to work with quietness and eat their own bread.   I Peter 3:4 notes that a meek and quiet spirit is of great value in the sight of God.

These verses contrast…

A Prisoner of God

maxresdefaultThe following passage from the Bonhoeffer biography by Eric Metaxas really spoke to me. Hitler had just came to power (by popular election no less) but had not as yet gained complete power and had to use persuasion to accomplish what he later accomplished by decree.  He was attempting to get the Church to come into league with the State and throw off any doctrine that contradicted Nazi doctrine including throwing out the whole Old Testament as too Jewish.  Part of the Church immediately begin to fall in line with Hitler and most of the rest eventually did as the church leadership and lay persons very much wanted to be part of the fashionable Nazi opinions of the day which were…

Praying Without Ceasing

pray-without-ceasingI Thessalonians 5:17 reminds us that we are to “pray without ceasing”.  But how is this to be accomplished as we go along in our daily lives? The great confederate general and devout christian Stonewall Jackson once explained how he implemented this in his life after a friend complained about the difficulty of obeying this scriptural command.  Jackson insisted that one could so accustom themselves to prayer, that it could easily be obeyed in a christian’s daily life as follows:

“When we take our meals…
