In the book of judges we read about the Israeli tribes failing to secure their entire inheritance. This caused associations with pagans and idolatrous influence, resulting in discipline from God in the form of bondage. Then they would seek and cry out to God for help. He sent judges with His prevailing power of deliverance. However, it did not break the cycle as succeeding generations after the judge died again let pagan influence return.
Is this relevant to us? Scripture is clear that friendship with the world is enmity with God. (James 4:4) A very recent example is in the German Catholic priest who publicly blessed same sex marriages, against the Bishop of Germany who had forbidden such blessings. Homosexual acts are clearly condemned in scripture and the Catholic Church has traditionally held a scriptural policy. Nevertheless these German priests rejected scripture for friendship with worldly ways and practices.
All sorts of worldly practices and influences are pressing into churches and Christian organizations, Episcopal’s, Presbyterian, Methodists, and others have segments of their organizations which accept homosexuality, women in leadership roles, acceptance of abortion and various other practices that are worldly and opposed to scripture. Is it any business of the world to judge Christian devotion? Has human reasoning replaced scripture as the light and truth? Is the underlying issue that the Church has not secured its inheritance? What is the churches inheritance?
The Holy Spirit is the evidence and guarantee of our inheritance – salvation in Messiah Yeshua. Holy Spirit leading is in perfect alignment with scripture. (John 14:26) Moreover, Holy Spirit leading defeats worldly argument and association. Abortion is an illustration how the world’s arguments bring division among Believers. The world suggests it it unfair to penalize a woman who’s pregnant from rape or incest. Some Believers find this suggestion reasonable, however, killing the innocent unborn baby is a greater injustice. Any woman raped or involved in incest can take timely measures to prevent pregnancy. Their inaction is easily ignored, but results in the killing of an innocent life. Alternatively, they could deliver the baby for adoption. Very seldom mentioned is the psychological devastation most women face after killing an innocent baby, irrespective of the circumstances. God is able by His Spirit leading to bring life, healing and peace, even in dire circumstances. Worldly ways bring bondage, hardship and death.
Believers shouldn’t engage a debate with pagans about their idolatry, nor entertain rationalizations regarding clear tenets of scripture. Doing so is generally stepping outside Spiritual leadership, particularly in debate or argument. The lost cannot understand or accept Spiritual wisdom, God’s justice, or the Lordship of Yeshua Messiah. Worldly thinking from political leaders is hopeless, only God’s way offers hope. Let us secure our inheritance and hold firm to God’s immutable Word.
