Anyone would be wrong to think that he could comprehend God’s full plan. (Ecclesiastes 3:11). However, we can see part of His purposes from what He tells us in scripture. We know that God placed two trees in the garden of Eden, the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; fruit of the later was forbidden to eat. The fall of man happened as Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s command and ate the forbidden fruit. They became self-aware knowing good from evil and were banished from the garden and no longer had access to the tree of life and God’s direct presence. (Gen. 3:22-24; Gen. 3:8).
God was not surprised or caught off guard by this, nor did the enemy’s deceit of Eve overthrow God’s purposes. God knows everything from beginning to end and is Sovereign over all. (1 John 3:20; Jeremiah 32:17). This includes His reign over the enemy, who had taken a third of the angels with him, in his wicked prideful rebellion to become like God. (Isaiah 14: 14-15; 2 Peter 2:4). The enemy was cast down to earth in order to accomplish God’s will for mankind. Both the destiny of man and the enemy would be resolved together upon earth. Time was created when the earth, sun and universe were created and time would end with the destruction of the earth and the universe. God’s work in mankind and the enemy would be judged and completed at the end of days/time. (Rev. 20: 11-15).
Before creation Yeshua was with God and was God. He was the Word and the light of the world and before creation His purpose was known by the Father. In Him was the supremacy and nothing was made, of all that was made, without Him. (John 1: 1-4). That purpose was a hidden mystery throughout ages of time. From the beginning with Cain killing Able, human history was a mess of evil wickedness with the enemy asserting influence over mankind who now had the knowledge of good and evil, yet without the requisite authority over which to employ it. This brought about God’s wrath and all but Noah and his family were saved in the flood. (Gen 8:18; 2 Peter 2:5).
Faith was instituted in Abraham and the mystery of the ages began to be revealed in his descendants. Israel’s son Joseph was a foreshadow of the Messiah that the prophets would later describe in great detail. Moses was delivered, both in his birth and to be a deliverer, as the Messiah would deliver God’s people. This entire nation of Abraham’s descendants, Israel, was an example for all people of God’s loving merciful purpose; His power and sovereignty, and a revelation of His character and nature. God gave the ten commandments to Israel to show all mankind what was truly good and evil. Instinctively man was able to recognize and acknowledge the goodness inherent in the law of God. However, the power and authority remained illusive for mankind to wield his knowledge of good and evil.
Only two thousand years ago, the mystery of the ages was revealed with the birth, life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Yeshua Messiah. He defeated and cast down the enemy usurper. He restored relationship between God and Man by recreating all who believe and accept Him. This recreation of man removed the curse of sin and death over Adam’s race, so that new born again spiritual men and women may rise and follow the Messiah. To all whom God called to salvation He gave the Holy Spirit as a guarantee of what was to come. The Holy Spirit descended as a dove upon the Messiah/Savior and remained within every believer after Yeshua returned to the Father in heaven.
In the last two thousand years God has built a very large congregation of believers and continues to enlarge the family of God. As time draws near to its end, Yeshua Messiah will return and defeat the enemy and his followers. There will be a period of bliss on earth for a thousand years under Messiah Yeshua’s reign. (Rev. 20: 1-6). The end will come and He will gather the dead and living to heaven for the judgment. The enemy and his followers will be cast into the lake of fire/hell. The saints will be given authority to judge angels and they will do so with the knowledge of good and evil; with wholehearted reliance upon God and His Spirit; a full and complete understanding of mercy and compassion as objects themselves of God’s mercy and love.
The purposes of God are certain to be accomplished. Mankind was made for God in the image of God. The knowledge of good and evil is right when it is possessed and used within the authority of those under God’s authority and in whom the love of God has been established for such a purpose and plan. Everything in creation will come into perfect completion, unity and harmony in the end, with a new heaven and a new earth that will be the residence of God and man in loving relationship. Words cannot articulate the glory that will be revealed, but inside every believer there is a thirst, hunger, yearning, and calling drawing us by love to Yeshua our Messiah and King, our treasure in heaven and the desire of our deepest longing.
