Faith and Patience

article-2044267-0E2AF21E00000578-78_470x423That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” Hebrews 6:12.

There are many promises given to Believers in the Word of God.  Not the least of which is that, in the end, good will overcome evil and the wicked will be judged and punished.  “Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the wicked; for there will be no prospect for the evil man; the lamp of the wicked will be put out.”  Proverbs 20:22.  “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” Psalm 9:17.

With the great wickedness we see rising in our country today, including legalized homosexual marriage, partial birth abortions, and certain people and governmental entities actively trying to thwart our immigration laws (including some professing Christians), it is easy to become discouraged and want to retaliate back.  The fascist left will not even let persons hold opinions opposed to theirs without shouting at them in their face when out in public or otherwise attempting to restrict their speech.  However, a Christian should never despair or revile back because God is in control and promises to eventually save us from the wicked. “Do not say, ‘I will recompense evil’; Wait for the Lord, and He will save you.” Proverbs 24: 19-20. The wicked will see their day of judgment and in the meantime God calls us to maintain our faith and be patient – trusting in Him.  “The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.  It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.”  Lamentations 3: 25-26.

While we are waiting on God to execute judgment, we are not to imitate the wicked by responding in like kind to them with hatred.  We are rather to pray for their salvation which is the only remedy for their wickedness.  We are to always take and defend fearlessly godly principles, including the rule of law, but we are to be slow to anger and not act foolishly like the wicked.  “He who is slow to wrath has great understanding, but he who is impulsive exalts folly.” Proverbs 14: 29.

There is no future prospect (hope) for the unrepentant wicked.  Their lamp will  eventually be put out by God and they along with wicked nations, including figuratively the United States itself if it does not repent and “remember” God, will be cast into hell.   This is a sobering thought and should encourage all Christians to pray for national as well as individual repentance.
