Our Dwelling Place

“Because you have made the Lord my refuge, the Most High, your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.” Psalm 91:9-11

“As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.” John 15:4

In this world we have turmoil that swirls around all of us from time to time. However, whether we face financial, health, relational or any other trial or for that matter even when we are in better seasons of life a Christian’s dwelling is always foundationally in God’s mansion of rest. This dwelling transcends life’s changing circumstances. We function as a pilgrim in this world while simultaneously being at home with God, wandering the earth yet dwelling in His quiet habitation.

Making the Lord your dwelling place involves recognizing Him as your refuge and the Most High as the center of your residence. We must shift from viewing God as distant to experiencing Him as our fundamental home. We should see the Lord as always before us, maintaining awareness of his presence at our side. It must be a constant, intimate relationship. In John, we see the imagery of a branch (Christians) abiding in the vine (Jesus). Abiding in the original is an imperative – something that is of vital importance. There is simply no way to live out the Christian life successfully unless we are constantly attached to/with Jesus.

No matter the trials that may swirl around our life we must always realize/imagine the reality of our true place of residence in the quiet halls of God. As Christians, we are currently seated in the heavenly places with Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:6). We are at all times positionally resurrected with a new, powerful and unique life and position. We will not realize the glory of this position until eternity but we have the power and rest attached to it even now. No evil or plague is present there. God will see us through any trials here even if He has to send His angels. By faith, let us live in this wonderful reality.
