Chernobyl and Lies

It seems that some of the best movies are knockoffs or inspired by documentaries of the same events, consider:

– A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood vs Want You Be My Neighbor

– Captain Phillips vs Pirates of Somalia

– Sully vs Miracle Landing on the Hudson

– Ford vs. Ferrari vs The 24 Hour War

– Chernobyl vs Building Chernobyl’s Mega Tomb

It confirms the saying, “Truth is stranger than fiction.”

Chernobyl is a 2019 TV miniseries. I thought is was very interesting and well told. The documentary is more focused on the replacement building that encapsulates the entire reactor. The miniseries is rated 9.4 on IMDB and has some excellent actors that play real participants in the disaster. A theme runs through this movie, “the cost of a lie” and the story is filled with lies told by practically everyone except those who sacrificed their lives in an effort to mitigate the disaster and prevent further devastation. Mikhail Gorbachev stated years later after the collapse of the USSR that it was Chernobyl that brought it down. It should be a wakeup call to America, when the State (government) becomes more essential than the truth, a nation is finished. When there are no sanctions or restraint to lies, it is a path that will lead to certain destruction. The extent of lies serving as news today is proliferating, such that we may not be able to afford to repair the damage and destruction these lies will one day demand.

This is not about politics, but politics is the vehicle that excuses lying. Integrity is what we need and that comes from individuals who have courage, commitment, and a sound moral foundation. These virtues are under assault by the same people who have sold their souls for political purposes. It doesn’t take courage or any virtue to hate. When we become so arrogant that we will do anything to achieve what we want, we are not just wrong, we have become wicked. Those who are attempting to overthrow traditional America are consumed with contempt, but they will not be thwarted by hate. Hatred kills those who harbor it like a parasite which sucks the life blood from its host.

Hope remains as long as there is a remnant of people who put their hope and trust in God alone. God is rich in mercy. (Eph. 2:4) “Come, let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds. After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will restore us, that we may live in his presence. Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” (Hosea 6:1-3).
