“But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.” (Matthew 12:36-37)
We hear this constantly with accusing and counter accusations. The media is filled with the most horrible statements against people on both sides of every argument. Slander is verbal and libel is written defamation of one’s character and person. The Media is exempted from suit by public figures and unless it can be proven that it had a personal intention to do so. This has become a license for slurs and false accusation. Where there is free speech there will be some pointed disagreements, but honorable people can do this without personal defamation. One of the most recent and widespread examples of slander was from Hillary Clinton and repeated by Joe Biden when each of them defamed and slandered the seventy-four million Americans who voted for Trump as deplorable or as Biden said, “Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic.”
However, there is a greater and most horrific slander and defamation reserved for God. The God of the Bible is the Creator of all things and shown to be good beyond equal. His love, compassion and mercy towards Israel over thousands of years is well documented in the Bible and other historical records. The Supreme illustration of His love is the sacrifice of His Son and Israel’s Messiah, Yeshua of Nazareth. God is accused of being cruel, violent, unjust, unloving, nonexistent, haphazard, evil, unfeeling, uncaring, distant, ambivalent, disinterested, outdated, irrelevant, unfashionable, no fun, boring, cheap, homophobic, xenophobic, prejudice, discriminatory, hypocritical, everything worldly modern men fancy they are not. Yeshua as God’s son, is God in human flesh and came to reveal the Father’s character and nature in a human form that all people could see and understand. He was humble, merciful, compassionate, loving, generous, just, kind and available, everything God said and demonstrated He was to Israel over thousands of years. No person ever was like Him and He proved it through His supernatural birth, life, death and resurrection.
Still, people decry Yeshua and defame His name, as well. If God was who and what the modern world says He is He would destroy His enemies, but He is patient, forgiving, and merciful. However, He is just and in the end has given judgment to Yeshua who will judge everyone ever born based on their words and deeds.
