“Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord.” (Ephesians 2:19-21)
Believers in Yeshua are mourning with Israel and her losses in this recent war. They support Israel’s right to defend itself. They repudiate those who justify atrocities and heinous murder by Hamas terrorists. There is no link or equivalence between Hamas, Gaza or the Arab people residing in the west bank, generally referred to as Palestinians, and Israels past or current actions in defense of its land and right to exist in peace. Those who engage in the subterfuge of equivalence are simply promoting hatred for Israel. Recent demonstrations against antisemitism in the UK, US and elsewhere are just and rightly answer the enemies of peace.
Why has the world wide Christian community become the best friend of Israel? In particular the evangelicals? Is it because of the Spiritual union that exists between the two? Paul recognized, “…the people of Israel. Theirs is the adoption to sonship; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises. Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of the Messiah, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen.” (Romans 9:4-5) He explains how not all Israelis are the same and everyone from all nations must come to faith individually, but he recognized that God has not rejected Israel. (Romans 11:1-2)
Israel has experienced a hardening against her Messiah, but in time all Israel will be saved. (Rom. 11:26-27) “As far as the gospel is concerned, they are enemies for your sake; but as far as election is concerned, they are loved on account of the patriarchs, for God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable.” (Rom. 11:28-29) This is the Spiritual promise that all Believers see in Israel’s past, present and future. God sees and knows everything from beginning to end and we know Yeshua is first Israel’s Messiah, in whom we have been ingrafted by His grace. Moreover, He will return and save Israel from total annihilation at Armageddon. Then Israel will see and recognize Him as their Savior. “And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.” (Zechariah 12:10) The family of God will be united with Israel.
