Prayer

The scriptures encourage prayer and this is what the congregation of Believers has been about since Yeshua departed in the first century. (Acts 1:14) We don’t always feel like praying, particularly when we have turned away from God’s face in self interest. Nevertheless, He is there with us as He was when David brought Bathsheba to himself; when Peter denied knowing the Lord the third time; when Abraham agreed to take the slave Hagar and produce a child when waiting became too long, and when Elijah was hiding in a cave afraid of Jezebel’s threat to kill him. “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.” (Psalms 139:7-10)

One may say, “Why pray if He knows everything before I speak?” Someone may ask, “Why pray when His will is immutable?” How long have you prayed when the answer was delayed? What does it mean to, “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” (Col. 4:2) Prayer should be our way of life, communing in the Spirit who teaches and words our prayers with His fervor. All the excuses against prayer are refuted in scripture by words and deeds of Yeshua who spent numerous times alone in prayer and with His disciples joining in prayer, even just before His arrest and crucifixion.

Some of our best prayer is intertwined with God’s word. Prayer is a pure act of faith which is unlimited and beyond our comprehension. Many scriptures assure that whatever we ask for in prayer will be granted. (Matt. 21:22; Mark 11:24; John 15:7) I’m praying for my cousin’s daughter. I have asked according to the word, from out of His compassion, to destroy the works of the enemy, to bring a witness of His glory to the unbelieving world, with faith believing, and in the mighty name of Yeshua Messiah. I don’t know all that is happening in the Spirit realm; when Daniel prayed an answer was despatched immediately, but delayed for twenty days. (Dan. 9:23, 10:13) I started a prayer list, not as a reminder, but to record how the Spirit sheds light into dark places with enlightenment.

Where is the Spirit leading your prayers? Are you praying for revival?
