Thinking and Doing

“Indeed, to them you are nothing more than one who sings love songs with a beautiful voice and plays an instrument well, for they hear your words but do not put them into practice.” (Ezekiel 33:32)

Who is God and what place does He hold in your heart, mind and soul? I’m going through a horrible time as long-time friends desert me and reject the fellowship we once shared. It came slowly as one moved away and took his friendship with him. Another, confronted me with false accusations and declared our friendship is over. Others evaporated like water on pavement under the hot sun. New acquaintances shunned me and my passion for Holy Spirit leading and presence, or due to other more valid reasons which we all have as sons and daughters of Adam. I’m not faulting these former friends or acquaintances. I see it as a message and warning alerting me to take heed, wake up, and change – something.

We all live on several levels of existence, within family, through an occupation or career, among friends and neighbors, close or casual, in our thought life, as a citizen in our communities and country, and in accordance with our religion or spiritual beliefs before God. I have faith that relationship with God is preeminent and critical, because we are broken, in a state of total depravity which we deny and forget all too often. Like children our play drives and distracts us with the fun we crave.

Around the world things are much different and also the same. Yet, we are each responsible for our own soul and its eternal destiny. That responsibility is not the same as ability, power, or duty to make things happen. We cannot fix or save ourselves anymore than I can go out and replace my life-long friends with new ones. It is a sobering reminder of our need for a “higher power”, particularly, to those engrossed in play.

Terrible hardship and disaster are coming to all the world, even in and as, the bubble of western free society pops. For some, God will still be the essential and primary focus of existence, but many others will be as though the rug is pulled from underneath them with a hard crushing fall. This is foretold in scripture; signs are all around in society, government, and nations. One action is called for amid these blaring sirens – find healing, refuge and eternal security in God alone. If at all possible sever worldly pursuits, fleshly desires, selfish ambitions and reconnect to God through the knowledge of Yeshua and enabling of the Holy Spirit before action is barred by shock and fear.
