The Bee Gees great hit, “How can you mend a broken heart”, reminds us that our hearts are weak and this world is evil. The enemy is doing all he can to kill, steal and destroy our faith in Yeshua and we are broken children of Adam. Even so, there is truth and great reason to lift up our heads, because our Redeemer lives and ever intercedes for us.
“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious…inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.” (Eph. 1:18-21).
When we are hard pressed we must return to our treasure, our Messiah. “But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matt. 6:20-21). “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.” (Matt. 13:44-46). “But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.” (2 Cor. 4:7-9).
Consider your great treasure in Messiah Yeshua, the Pearl of great price. Let the Love of God mend your broken heart, set your heart on things above, in heaven where your treasure is. “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority.” (Colossians 2:9-10).
Forgiveness and laying aside the injustices of this world brings peace and freedom. God knows all things and watches over all that concerns His children. “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” (Matt. 5:11-12). Have faith in God, it is faith that pleases God, when you set your mind and heart on God, relying on His will and purposes for your life, He will strengthen you and protect you from any real harm.
Many times when Yeshua healed people he would instruct them to do some minor thing, like washing in a pool, or getting up and carrying their mat, or asking what they wanted; it had nothing to do with the healing, but it demonstrated faith. God wants us to demonstrate faith in Him; His great power; His willingness to hear and answer our prayers; His faithfulness to keep His promises found in the Bible. Throughout human history men and women of faith have lived lives that demonstrate God’s lovingkindness and faithfulness. Every believer can tell of God’s particular love and mercy to them at specific times and this is their greatest testimony of God – His goodness and mercy. After contemplating the riches and blessings we have in Messiah, our hearts are mended and we enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. (Ps. 100:4-5).
