“And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him”. I John 5:14-15.
This passage in I John encourages Christians to make their requests known to God in confidence. He promises to grant our requests that are made according to His will. Our duty is to walk close to God
to be better able to better ascertain what God’s will is, with the help of
the Holy Spirit, and direct our prayers accordingly.
God desires to give us “good things” if we will ask for them in confidence. “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you…. If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” Matthew 7: 7, 11.
No request is impossible with God, who has no limits on His power, and anything asked in His will is possible. “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours”. Mark 11:24.
Is there a person far from God with little apparent hope who you have a burden for? Pray for them believing that God can bring even the most wicked sinner to salvation. Has our country turned so far from God that there appears little hope of renewal? Pray for revival believing, that if it is God’s will, he can bring the most wicked nation to repentance. Has a loved one be given a terminal diagnosis? Pray believing that God can bring them to healing if it is His will. God is the person we should have confidence in regardless of the hopelessness of any situation.
We should honor God with our faith and confidence in Him and “come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:16. He will not fail us.
