There have recently been many revelations, one after another, of sexual harassment claims, with many being acknowledged by the perpetrator. The fact that these acts have been brought to light is a very positive development as it has encourage more and more abuses to be brought to light to hopefully prevent others happening in the future. It is shocking how broad the abuses go across, media, Hollywood, business, politicians, many of which include regular moralizers against other person’s actions. Even the liberal defenders of Bill Clinton are starting to acknowledge his abusive actions. It is clear that many men in power use their position or celebrity to prey on women.
We do however need to be careful to give any one accused a right to defend themselves. As we have seen with the Duke Lacrosse team and the false rape accuser at the University of Virginia, sometimes false accusations are made by women against men. We do not want to enter a period, as in the French Revolution, where an accusation was sufficient to get you condemned, even without evidence.
Further, we do not want to honor people like Megyn Kelly, who paraded around in her slip in seductive poses in GQ magazine and otherwise used her sex appeal to get ahead. She put up with Roger Ailes’ harassment and subsequently described him as a mentor and friend as long as it advanced her career. When there was no longer any cost to her, after she had a secure anchor position at Fox and Ailes was being accused by others, only then did she turn on him. In the meantime, many other women were apparently subjected to sexual harassment that might have been prevented. The Megan Kelly types are part of the problem rather than the solution.
Our country’s morals are in bad shape. With powerful men preying on women, along with increasing homosexual and transgender activity, Billy Graham is right when he said God will have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah if he does not judge America. We need to pray for our country that it will turn back to Godly ways. Further, we need women who will call out these predatory acts by men as soon as they happen and then we need to support them while also giving the men a fair chance to defend themselves. We need to seek and pray that justice be done.
