The Value of a Soul

XXX506People are everywhere and in the city they are often packed in like sardines.  We are all different, but also similar in many ways.  The inner most being of each person is a soul, which is hard to describe, but it is the essential part of each person.  You might say it is the most substantial part of the person.  Our body is identifiable, but it is also superficial in that it changes much over time and even when a portion may be lost, it continues our identity.  The mind may be the place where many of us live out our lives with thoughts, dreams, discussion, and analysis of all the input we receive from our senses.  Our minds are so very malleable that they can change as quick as the wind and range from gale force activity to calm, still as a whisper.  Besides our senses almost anyone can influence our mind, whether through a great book, song or a subtle lie our minds can be like sand on the seashore moving amid the tides.

The soul is of the greatest value, as Yeshua taught, “What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?  Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?” (Matt. 16: 26).  He clarified and pointed out, “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.  Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matt. 10: 28).  Your soul is eternal, not your body, nor your mind. As we age our body becomes weak and limited.  Also our minds may begin to lose their function.  However, the soul continues on unaffected by time or age.

In a recent conversation with a young man, he asked, “Do you believe the bible, an old book, can actually make any difference to a person.  I replied, “The words in the Bible have supernatural power from God.”  The scripture explains this fact, “For the word of God is alive and active.  Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Heb. 4: 12).  God validates Himself and communicates to the human heart through this same divine power.

God can make Himself known and communicate to each person.  He may use a variety of means, including the Bible, Believers, the creation itself, or a direct message to ones soul, but He is able to speak so that each person understands, whether they admit it or not. Moreover, who has not called out to God in a moment of desperation?  See the great value in a soul, others, as well as your own, and cry out to God from the depths of your soul for His mercy.
