“And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.” Zechariah 12:10

“For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: ‘The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; For this is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins.’ Concerning the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but concerning the election they are beloved for the sake of the fathers. For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.” Romans 11:25-29.

God, in His sovereignty, has blinded Israel due to their rejection of Him as their Messiah but God’s election of Israel as His chosen people is irrevocable and all of Israel will be saved one day. There is a remanent of Jews that have believed in Christ and are saved today (Romans 1:5), but during the end times all of Israel will come to Christ. In that day a fountain will be opened for sin and uncleanness which is a symbolic reference to the means of cleansing and purification through the atoning death of the one pierced.

Israel will look upon Christ and their eyes will be open and they will mourn as for an only son.  This will lead to repentance and salvation. Mourning for an only son was the deepest form of sorrow for an Israelite. The words for “look on” in Zechariah 12:10 are the same as used in Numbers 21:9, when Israel looked upon the bronze serpent in faith to receive healing.

Yes, Israel will come back to their Messiah someday as foretold in the Word of God. The Church has not replaced Israel in its promises as some teach today but will one day look upon the one they pierced and repent. That will be a glad day. Remember to pray for Israel, God’s chosen people.
