On Thursday, September 26, 2019 the 700 Club TV show aired an account of a woman who had an abortion when she was in her early twenties. The doctor told her an abortion was possible, but it would by very painful as she would have to deliver the baby. Afterwards the memory was painful and she was overcome with regret. She shared a recurring image of meeting her daughter in the afterlife and hearing her say, “Mommy, why did you kill me.” She began to consider suicide and as she was slitting her wrist the phone rang and the caller explained that God had instructed him to call her and tell her of God’s redeeming forgiveness and love and that she could hear more at the church nearby. She stopped, went to the church and recieved God’s mercy and forgiveness. She began to recover and later had four children and a happy life.
The thoughts and fears of meeting her aborted daughter in the afterlife still plagued her. Sometime later a famous evangelist was coming to her town and she thought she should go in search of an answer to these thoughts that still bothered her. Nothing happened in the service, but as she came out she fell down and experienced a vision of meeting her daughter in heaven. She encountered a man clothed in white. He began to laugh heartily and grabbed his stomach. Then she looked and recognized her daughter who was happy and delighted to see her Mommy; with no remorse or memory of sadness she greeted her. All her fears vanished as she understood there are no tears or bad memories in Heaven.
As I listened to this story many doubts and questions entered my mind. Often as she shared her emotions and feelings, I became uncomfortable reasoning that these were normal and held no weight in regard to testimony about God. How would going to an evangelistic meeting address her quilt? But there was something more powerful than these doubts, uncomfortableness and reasoning. The unknown caller made the call at just the exact moment to save her life and share God’s love, giving the truth that Heaven’s joy is unspoiled by this world’s sin and death. Her passion was for Yeshua and she received complete healing. I was deeply moved in the end because this was a story of the power of the Holy Spirit and God’s redeeming unconditional love.
I am amazed at the undaunted courage and faith of the 700 Club, they do not conform to the world’s ways, but stand on God’s word and demonstrate an active faith and spiritual understanding. In a rational worldly view, praying for unknown viewers with descriptions of specific ailments to be healed on TV is utter folly. I once agreed with my skeptical friend, “it doesn’t make good TV.” On the contrary, if one believes the words and deeds of Yeshua it is exactly what He did and charged His followers to do also. These are not prayers for show, but for ministry, and all the credit for healing is given to God alone. The things of the Spirit are folly to this world. “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” (John 14: 16-17). “The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.” (1 Corinthians 2: 14). Do not judge the servant of another and do not give in to doubts born of rationalization, nor surrender to prideful dignity that takes offense at the faith of a child. “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”
