“On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, ‘Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.’ By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.” (John 7: 37-39).
This is a scripture that expanded my horizons and changed everything. I’ve been thirsty wanting to drink and satisfy my parched dry reality. Yeshua knows our need and offers us drink, in abundance, unending, and life giving. He doesn’t require money or service, acts of bravery or retribution. He says, to come and believe in Him. What does it mean to come to Him and believe in Him? It means that we must move away from our sphere and plane of reference, our self satisfying nature. Coming to Yeshua requires us to open ourselves to Him by recognizing our own reality, which is needy, broken, hurt, fearful, and much more. When you go to visit someone you have to trust that they will accept you as you are and Yeshua will. Believing in Him is a progression that never ends because it is a relationship and because He is infinite. However, the start is very simple, we must believe that He exists and rewards those who earnestly seek Him. (Heb. 11: 6).
Then, He gives us the Holy Spirit which is like rivers of living water flowing from our innermost being. There is much more, such as, being born again, becoming a new creation, receiving forgiveness of sins, becoming an adopted child of God, a member of His family, and of course eternal life in His presence, but these are all the consequences of believing faith. “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” (2 Corinthians 3: 17-18). Can you, have you, will you come to Yeshua, the Lord of life and receive more than you could ever ask or imagine? If you’re a believer have you embraced the Holy Spirit and everything the Bible says and promises? You may not always feel like you have rivers of life, but it’s true. Are you living by your own reasoning and abilities or have you let the Holy Spirit release His power through you? This promise is for all who believe.
