Lies We Believe

The adage, “Repeat something often enough and people will believe it”, is true, in part, like many colloquialisms. The socialist media certainly employs it as does their leader, Satan. The human will is like building materials put under a load to test their strength. At a point wood, iron and steel eventually weaken, crack, bend and break. So too, our conscience, beliefs and convictions can weaken and fail. God has said that He would not allow a believer to be tempted beyond what they can bear. (1 Cor. 10:13) However, He does not shield us from being tested, just as Yeshua was tempted in the desert by Satan. (Matt. 4:1-11) Yeshua (Jesus’ Hebrew name) employed the truth of scriptures as a defense to Satan’s temptations and lies. I find it interesting that Satan attacked Yeshua’s identity saying, “If you are the Son of God…”. (v. 6) This is evidence that Yeshua was fully a man and had to exercise faith just as we do; He could not use His divine power to satisfy human necessity. When He was hungry, thirsty, or tired he had to wait and trust on God’s provision.

As Believers we rely upon God’s love. “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus… We love because he first loved us.” (1 John 4:16-17,19) The whole earth could not contain all the books that could be written about this and I don’t presume to be the definitive voice on these passages. (John 21:25) However, we are like Jesus in the world because we have to trust and rely on God’s love as He pours it into our hearts. We can not satisfy our need for love through our own ability, ingenuity, resources, intentions or skill. Satan says the opposite, over and over, hoping we will believe that lust, greed, pride, or many other things can satisfy our greatest critical, essential, intrinsic need for love. All the world is saying in a thousand different ways that you are unloved, on your own, and it is up to you to make it better. This is simply a lie, though we feel this way occasionally, it does not make it true. Lord, Yeshua you gave up everything for us, help us to stay in your love and escape the lies and snares of the enemy.
