Do you believe in miracles? If so, truly, are they limited; to Old Testament times; to the First Century when Yeshua (Jesus) was on earth and the first disciples and church were new? Are miracles only signs from God as validation or direction? Did Yeshua do any miracles simply out of His compassion or mercy? Does God still perform miracles today? Are all the healing miracles claimed today fraudulent or just emotional pain, sadness, or oppression that was purely mental and thus not verifiable scientific truth? Does it matter whether we believe in miracles, given the Bible indicates that frauds and Satan will perform wonders to deceive people? (Mark 13:22) Aren’t we better off rejecting all miracles that are not recorded in the Bible? Thomas Jefferson cut out every supernatural event (miracle) described in his Bible because He was a Theist, believing in a Supreme being, but not necessarily Yeshua, and certainly not supernatural events. Are miracles a stumbling block or barrier to believing in the Messiah, who asserted that He rose from the dead by miraculous power? Is there a connection between believing the entire Bible and believing in the God of the Bible today?
I believe it will take a miracle for anyone to be saved, including you and I. One definition of a miracle is “a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency.” A more concise definition is an act of God. One may say, “We know Christ’s death on the cross brought salvation to all who believe, that one miracle did it all.” While that is true, the working out of it is far more complex and interesting. Such a statement is like a fact of nature, “Water condenses into the atmosphere, forms clouds and turns into rain.” Scriptures reveal that everyone will be judged individually before the judgment seat of Christ. (2 Cor. 5:10) Each person’s name is written in the Lambs book of life or not. However, judgment will be based upon what each person has done in their life. This is where your miracle is revealed, an act of God surprising, welcome and inexplicable. He saves us, not through any work of our own, lest some should boast. (Romans 4:2-5; Eph. 2:8-10) There is a miracle happening in your life and you may not even be aware of it, due to limitations placed on God, His will, ability, and/or love. We all are the same, even those whom we admire for their faith and surrender still need a miracle of salvation. In this we may put on humility and find the rest, peace, freedom and faith we seek; not from a comparison with others, but in total reliance in the fullness of God’s almighty Sovereignty and love. “Jesus Christ is the same Yesterday, today, and forever.” (Heb. 13:8)
