The Magi

Wisemen from the east sought Israel’s Messiah, following his star, asking, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” (Matthew 2:2) We aren’t told what country or region the Magi were from or how it was revealed to them that the Messiah of Israel had been born. God had revealed this to them directly or indirectly, even if it was from the Hebrew prophet Micah, (Micah 5:2-4), but they also knew of a star assigned to Him at His birth. God owns all nations and uses them and people from all nations for His purposes. It is interesting that eastern peoples affirmed the Messiah’s arrival and were warned by a divine dream to avoid king Herod.

Israel’s Messiah is the only Messiah for all the world’s nations. When we find God’s salvation it is through Yeshua, Messiah. By accepting His message and believing upon Him, we enter into God’s family which includes Israel the first, chosen nation, to whom belong the patriarchs, the law and the Prophets. “For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace,… Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.” (Ephesians 2:14-15, 19-20)

This was God’s plan from the beginning to unite the two groups, Jews and Gentiles, into one new humanity. “He says: “It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.”(Isaiah 49:6)

Is it possible that the Star of Messiah Yeshua, is a prophetic illustration of Isaiah’s prophecy of a light reaching the ends of the earth drawing Gentile Maji to acknowledge and worship Him. Today, people from Afghanistan, Iran, and all around the world are coming to faith in Yeshua Messiah as the Good News of Salvation brings life into the hearts of those who hear and believe. God is drawing people to himself through the message of reconciliation, “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:19, 21) Glory to God in the Highest and on earth goodwill to men.
