Human Pride

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)

The Lord is Almighty God and we are as the grass of the fields that springs up and dies as quickly. If we are to properly assess our place, we must humble ourselves in thought, deed and heart. So much of our thoughts are centered on what we want, what we will do and where we will go, but we are powerless in truth, but for God’s help, mercy and grace we can do nothing.

If we are wise we will humble ourselves before God. We should reject pride and consider ourselves as we are, needy, broken and weak. We must find contrition and seek a lowly place of service, counting others better than ourselves. Even in this we need God’s help as we cannot see the multitude of things that are repugnant in His sight. If we call on His name, Yeshua, Messiah, He will have mercy and lead us in His path’s to repentance. 

Our hearts have strayed from the One who lifted us out of the mud and mire of our own making. We must confess how far we have fallen. How can we  continue in our pride and escape destruction when our hearts harbor such haughty insolent attitudes toward our brothers? This is the one thing we must strive for in our day and it is an emergency, a crisis, that looms over us. How can God punish the wickedness of unbelievers when we are leading them in hypocrisy, unfaithfulness and arrogance.

Let us turn and rightfully confess that we have sinned, that we are as nothing and are wrapped in our own filthy rags. The Spirit will help us see how we have turned away from the needy, failed to defend innocent children and uttered arrogant judgements instead of praying for forgiveness. May the Holy Spirit open our eyes to see how we have been selfish, ungenerous, and brought reproach upon the name and house of the Lord.

Lord, open our eyes to see that we are small and helpless. We have not heeded your example of washing your disciples feet. We have turned away from the sick and afflicted instead of caring for them and supplying their needs. Let us hear the cries and groans of the orphans and widows and respond with broken hearts with faith and trust in your compassion. Lord, forgive us and give us a heart like yours that reaches out in love and never turns away.
