There are many evils in our society such as murder, crimes of all sorts, injustice in our courts, corruption in our government, despicable personal acts. These are seemingly on the rise, but they have been around at certain levels for all our national history. Recently I’ve seen a wickedness that is disturbing on an entirely different level; parents are causing dire suffering to their own children, they take their food stamp money, sell it, to buy who knows what, and leave the children hungry and without food. They also, disregard their children and let their teeth rot out. I know this factually as churches supply food for hundreds of children in the local city who…would go hungry on the weekends, but during the week are fed only by the schools. Also, I know that pediatric dentists regularly perform numerous procedures for many children who’s teeth have rotted as a result of derelict negligent parents. This does not include the physical and emotional abuse and neglect suffered by children of drug addicts and other wicked or negligent parents.
It is heart breaking to see this occurring on such a large scale in America. Socialists do-gooders will cry that the government should expand more social programs, but these same programs are wide-spread and have been failing for years. The problem is deep within the moral fabric of our failing society, the spiritual foundations of our country are being steadily attacked, eroded and destroyed. Jesus has a particular interest and love for children: “He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.” (Matt. 18:2-5). “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven. (Matt. 18:10)
Warning: when a nation allows such abuse to innocent children by their own parents, it is moving very close to its own destruction. This is not a problem to be fixed by government or social engineers. It is a byproduct of the abandonment and rejection of the one true God. Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people. (Prov. 14: 34).
Hope remains in the one true God and the Body of Messiah.
When this first came to my attention I reacted in the natural, thinking the worthless parents should be locked up or punished, but in most cases, that would result in more suffering to these children. Thank God there are churches and dentists who are helping. God is the only source of hope, healing and restoration; pray for these families, parents and children, that the lies of the enemy will be exposed and strongholds of wickedness and unbelief will be broken over our nation. May the Lord have mercy on us and lead us in repentance back to Him – “…and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden; like a spring whose waters never fail. Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings. Isaiah 58: 10-12.
