We were keeping our three granddaughters, the youngest is almost three, and we sat down to eat. I asked who would like to say the blessing? The older sisters said, “Hailey can pray.” I said, “Ok”, and she began to pray. My hearing is weakening and Hailey is not the clearest speaker, so I had trouble with the precise meaning, but I was caught up in the Spirit, because I believe the scriptures. God was hearing this child’s prayer, though I had difficulty. God was accepting her prayer and I was joining in, the Spirit was my witness.
Yeshua said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me. If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.” (Matthew 18: 3-6). I believe this to be absolutely true.
When we welcome a little child in Yeshua, we welcome Yeshua. This was my thought and more, as their angels watch over them. “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.” (Matthew 18: 10). I’m not sure of all the implications of this scripture, other than the warning, not to despise them. If despising them is bad, is blessing and loving them good? That’s what Yeshua did, “And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.” (Mark 10: 16). The worldly man will say, Jesus was just a good politician kissing babies. All of Yeshua’s actions are contrary to such an assertion. He hid himself from the five thousand who ate and wanted to make Him king. (John 6:15). He did not follow his brothers advice as to making himself known. (John 7: 4). He rejected those who offered to promote Him. (John 2: 25). He publicly confronted the corruption, duplicity, and pride of the Israeli leadership. (Matt. 21: 45; 23: 3-8).
Yeshua came to those who would receive all He was willing to give, which is salvation from hell and eternal life in Heaven. Those with the heart and faith of a child accept Him. Become like a child who believes and accepts with innocence and trust. Lay aside your rationalization and worldly reasoning that is inherently skeptical, questioning, demanding and critical. If you are a follower of Yeshua, welcome children, even those crying on the plane, and you will be welcoming Him, the Holy Spirit within will confirm it. The psalmist said, “Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.” (Psalm 8: 2; Matt. 21: 16). Such is the wisdom of God, to release great power through children and even infants.
