Some may think Bruce died, but he still lives. Actually, not that much changed if you straighten out all the media spin. The media event is what it was all about, together with a public statement they wished to proclaim. They were careful to package this message with pretty bows and bright happy wrapping to hide the pain, confusion and reality of disfiguring mutilation and vivisection. What they wanted to say through Bruce was, “We are gods, we can make people in any image we choose.” In the Media, Bruce was applauded for his bravery and courage, and promised millions of dollars.
First, he changed his first name, signifying that Bruce was to be no more. I remember reading a post expressing anger and scorn toward someone who used his given name, proclaiming it as a “dead” name. However, Bruce is and had been a very famous public figure and history was associated with that name. I respect the right a person has to change their legal name, use a stage name or pseudonym, but a name change is not equivalent to death and rebirth. Moreover, it was obvious that this was all a media/money driven event. If you grow your hair long and style it right your hair can look like a woman’s. If one puts enough make up on one’s face they can look feminine. In Shakespeare’s time women were not permitted to act on the stage, therefore, men portrayed women, so this is not new. Even in ancient times this was done, as the Bible says, “A woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear women’s clothing, for the Lord your God detests anyone who does this.” (Deuteronomy 22:5)
Bruce subjected himself to hormones to affect his bodily growth and supplement the regimen of surgical procedures he had chosen. Though it appeared he had breasts, he had no mammary glands; though he was castrated, he had no female organs, genes, or DNA. In photographs carefully designed, retouched and fabricated he looked like a female, but in every real biological scientific factual sense he was still the same person he had been. It is very possible that his mental state is as warped and mutilated as his appearance. To those who knew him well, I suspect he still looks like himself without the makeup and clothes. The fact still remains, God loves each one and wants the best for us.
We were designed by God, even with our flaws and defects. (Job 31:15; Jeremiah 1:5; John 9:2-3) The Bible gives Believers understanding. “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20) “Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the Lord.” (Leviticus 19:28) “Watch out for those dogs, those evildoers, those mutilators of the flesh.” (Philippians 3:2) There is one God and Creator who reigns supreme over all His Creation and He is the one we should seek to please and obey.
