Properties of Stone

Scripture give us some fascinating insights into the properties of stone. Some of the references to stone are symbolic, but God can do amazing things in stone, if He has to. Can God bring Revival to change stony hearts into hearts of flesh filled with Holy Spirit fire?

  • Stones can cry out in praise to God. (Luke 19:37-40)
  • Children of Abraham can come out of stones. (Luke 3:8)
  • Stones would not hurt the Messiah. (Psalms 91:12)
  • Bread should not be made from stone. (Luke 4:3-4)
  • Stone walls of a proud house built through deceit and evil will cry out. (Habakkuk 2:9-11)
  • Artistic skill in stone work comes from God’s Spirit. (Exodus 35:31,33)

God designated an Alter of sacrifice remaining with the Ten Commandments on it as a memorial marker for posterity. (Joshua 4:6) It was to be made of natural stones, uncut or shaped by men.

God designed a beautiful breast piece for Levi of twelve precious stones, one for each tribe of Israel. (Exodus 28:15-28)

There is one living Stone precious to God. “As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him—” (1 Peter 2:4) It is God’s proven foundational cornerstone which is fully reliable. “So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic.”

(Isaiah 28:16)  Yeshua is the one stone rejected by the builders that became the cornerstone. “Jesus is ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.” (Acts 4:11) The children of God are built into this house or temple of God as living stones. “…you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”

(1 Peter 2:5) Inside this Congregation of Believers the Holy Spirit resides. When that temple is filled with God’s presence revival manifests with intense worship, repentance, intercession, Holy Spirit unction, ministry and things led by the Spirit. Today, there is a demonstration of it at Asbury University in Kentucky. People were drawn there and they don’t want to leave because they sense the Presence of the Lord. Whether it spreads or dwindles may depend on hearts of those turning to Him and men choosing to surrender to the Spirits lead, rather than taking control.
