Holy Spirit In Clay Jars

2corinthians4_7The Holy Spirit lives in every believer.  When Yeshua ascended to the Father, He left the Holy Spirit to dwell in His People.  This was fulfillment of the great prophecy that He would give His people a heart of flesh for a heart of stone; that His baptism would be with the Holy Spirit, rather than just water.  The Holy Spirit can be grieved, but He will never leave us nor forsake us.  He is not put off by our weakness, on the contrary He is made perfect in it.  He sees us as righteous because Yeshua is our righteousness.  The blood of Yeshua cleanses us from all sin.  All our sins have been cast into the sea of forgetfulness, removed…

We Cannot Out Give God

lwjas0037I can only think of three occasions  recording that Yeshua received gifts;  near His birth He was given frankincense, gold and myrrh; Mary gave him a foot washing of expensive perfume, and after His death Joseph and Nicodemus gave Him seventy pounds of burial spices.  He gave healing, deliverance from evil spirits, sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, even life from death to Lazarus and the officials daughter.  He gave His followers food, and two bountiful catches of fish to His disciples.  These were just a few instances, there likely were many more, as John asserts. (John 21:25).

You can not out give God.  Who has given anything to God, that he might be repaid. (Rom 11:33-36).  God owns…

Comprehending God

dd5884b427fdf65a1327a8ede6918027We are finite and limited in our understanding, but Yeshua came to earth to show us God’s love, his nature and character.  God is powerful enough to make himself known, in fact, it took the cruel death of His one and only Son to do it, so He did.

I was once asked, “What is your vision of God, how do you picture Him?”  I thought and had no image of God in my mind, even as I tried I could not imagine Him.  For years this was so, until one day…

So This Is Christmas

the-annunciation-gabriel-mary_1163839_tmbIt is Christmas Eve.  The night before we celebrate the birth of our Savior.  A time when, as C S Lewis said, “The Son of God became a man to enable men to become sons of God.”

Christmas is a wonderful time of the year. Personally, I enjoy it all – the music, food, gifts and general good cheer that accompanies the season. But most importantly I love the remembrance and celebration of the birth of Jesus, the reason for the season.  Corrie Ten Boom said it best – “Who can add to Christmas?  The perfect motive is that God so loved…

Rest For Your Soul

imagesA soul that strives, that struggles, that is searching, that is tormented, that is self-reliant, that is lonely, is not resting. Yeshua said,  “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matt. 11:28-30).

We are to take on His service, casting off any burden the enemy would lay upon us through accusation.

“There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest…

What Happened to the Sacrifice

8a95b4b6dc0cb42e5146f0a856bfd45cThe sacrifice in the Torah has been fulfilled by a lasting, once for all sacrifice of the Lamb of God, His one and only son Yeshua, Messiah.  That sacrifice was the one to which all the rituals of Passover pointed. So, when the curtain in the temple was rent from top to bottom, as the spotless lamb of God died on the cross, the Holy place was opened, providing access to God, through Yeshua.  The temple was destroyed in 70 AD.; the sacrifice ceased at that time as well.

However, there is another scripture…

Glorify God in Your Trials

2eec7f06e6a3add42dfda620cb60b94dWe all sometimes wonder why God allows trials to come into the lives of Christians such as death of loved ones, poor health, loss of jobs or positions, or unhappy family situations.  We understand that we are just passing through this life and Heaven is our ultimate destination but why cannot this life be at least comfortable for us at all times.  God’s purpose in allowing trials is to test our faith and show the genuineness of it and to glorify God by humbling ourselves to submission to God who allows both good and bad things into our lives as He wills in his sovereignty.

I Peter 1:6-7 states…

Christian Generosity

10629806_10152802987771502_2627790586416661400_nWe watched a portion of a TV travel show about flying over southern Italy.  It was very beautiful and the ancient ruins were visible in great detail from the areal perspective.  As they flew over Rome the great Roman Catholic cathedral of Saint Peter was pointed out as the seat of Catholic religion.  I thought, “if someone were in great need, this would be a place where help could be counted upon”. Then I qualified myself, although one may need to be a member of the Catholic church.

That reminded me of an incident when I  was attending University.  My parents had provided me with an older car they had once used and we’re paying the insurance…

“There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his.” (Hebrews 4:9-10).

Will you accept the Lord’s rest under His terms?

A Dream Awakened

img_0118I had a dream, waking abruptly, “It’s not going to be finished.”  I repeated.  I realized that in my dream I was dying unexpectedly and had a moment of consciousness immediately before death.  I said, “It’s not going to be finished.”  This was a realization of the inevitable truth.  The reason behind it is that our lives are made up of a string of events, hopes, dreams, desires, questionings, searches, tasks, quests, projects, travels, goals, wishes, etc.  One after the other, perhaps overlapping, but in sequence, such that, when the string is broken, it’s existence becomes strikingly apparent. This string is as light and thin as a spider’s web, yet…

Live The Life You Are Called To

jesus-washing-feet-01It is very easy for people to find discontentment with their lives.  Whether it is having less money than thought necessary, family discord, lack of recognition for their accomplishments, their looks, or an unfulfiling job, many Christians face discontentment/disappointment with their lives. God’s remedy for this is his command for Christians to live the life that he has called them to.

I Corinthians 7:17 states “But as God has distributed…

Feelings Show Our Beliefs

136af79226b137cce0f5ef3670282e95When we examine our feelings, or we cry out in emotion overflowing from feelings of hurt, anguish, disappointment, loss, etc., we are expressing what we believe to be true.  However, all we feel and believe is not necessarily true.  I may feel defeated in my walk with Yeshua, or deserted and ignored because I have failed Him and myself; I believe He has pulled away from me, because I am no longer worthy to be in His presence.  These feelings are real, my failings are real, and I truly believe my weakness has separated me from Yeshua, but those who…

The Just Shall Live By Faith

slide_77In Zephaniah 1:12 a pronouncement is given upon those who are settled in complacency, who say in their heart, “The Lord will not do good, nor will he do evil”.

This is an appropriate scripture for today as people, even those who believe in God, become complacent looking at and caught up in the world around us.  Where is faith in God’s active and real loving-kindness, providence, sovereignty and compassion.  As we repent and wait on the Lord in faith, He says, “I will leave in your midst a meek and humble people, and they shall trust in the name…

Resurrection

a791d04a54f0aa84fb158cd2a5226076Judeo-Christian teaching is full of the concept of the after life including much on heaven – the kingdom of God and some on Hell, Hades, and eternal punishment.  For Believers Heaven is our goal, to be eternally in God’s glorious presence, and “saved” from God’s wrath and eternal torment.  We are encouraged to think of our heavenly reward.

“For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed…

Bear With One Another

intolerance-15-728The fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22 is comprised of Godly attitudes present in the lives of those with the Spirit of God.  The Holy Spirit is the one who produces the fruit through us and these fruits are not produced in any way by our natural self.  In fact, the flesh produces “works of the flesh” by human energy as opposed to the fruit of the Spirit which is grown as a branch abides in the vine (Christ). John 15:5.  The “fruit” of the Spirit is singular as it produces one kind of fruit – Christlikeness.

One attitude of the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22 is forbearance.  Forbearance or longsuffering is defined…

A Friend and God’s Faithfulness

6a00d83451e86969e2015437f17077970cI have a long time friend, who is as good a friend as one could ever want.  We were hired at the same time by the same organization. We went through divisional training together and worked together several times through the years. Early on in our respective careers, I noticed that my friend had a high concept of fairness and/or justice; consequently, when he was turned down for a promotion or special  assignment, he would object and dispute any injustice…

Judgment and Tolerance

main-qimg-13a3e409d82e5c7dbd17395ae537ba88-cChristians invented tolerance and practice it as a general rule, even though world history may have some specific exceptions.  Of course Hitler claimed to be a Christian, but clearly he was not. Islam knows no tolerance, nor do humanists, atheists, and communists.  Liberal politicians and the liberal media (many of whom are humanists or atheists or socialists) promote “political correctness” and are intolerant of anyone…

Forgive Thy Brother

02479c1829cc23ebf3485a2973df9feeJesus told his disciples to “Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.  And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.”  Luke 17:3-4. Matthew 18:21-22 raises the bar further by commanding that we forgive persons who sin against us up to 490 times, essentially unlimited forgiveness.  This mirrors the way God deals with our sins, that is, forgiveness without limits…

Mending a Broken Heart

cc3e73bf47d57b3d39deb3900b07789eThe Bee Gees great hit, “How can you mend a broken heart”, reminds us that our hearts are weak and this world is evil.  The enemy is doing all he can to kill, steal and destroy our faith in Yeshua and we are broken children of Adam.  Even so, there is truth and great reason to lift up our heads, because our Redeemer lives and ever intercedes for us.

“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious…

Self Knowledge and God’s Light

1cor3_13-2Watchman Nee collection Vol. 1 is several writings put together into one book.  Watchman Nee is one of my favorite authors because he well understands the Spirit life and the word of God.  He comments on 1 Corinthians 3 which describes the judgment of work done by believers during their life time and whether or not it will be rewarded in the future life, (which is apart from salvation).  He goes on to say that doing the will of God is preeminent in this judgment, rather than our beliefs or feelings or thoughts, what is done matters.  We have…

Properly Helping the Poor

garfieldlazy_2816Verses such as Proverbs 29:7 remind us to “consider the cause of the poor”.  As Christians, we are under a Biblical mandate to help relieve the suffering of the poor.  However, this does not extend to persons who refuse to work to provide for themselves.  In II Thes 3:10-12 we are commanded to work to provide our own bread to the extent possible and that if any person refuses to work neither should they eat.  We do a disservice to any poor person who we provide sustenance who could otherwise…

Lay Down Your Burden

e07abc5a0736a77c19da6607f58d21f4We need reminding that some (or much) of what we have thought comes from worries, lies from the enemy, fears, wounds and hurts, injustice, rumors, jealousy, revenge, etc.  We are very weak and in our natural fallen state; we are broken and very susceptible to evil.  “He went on: ‘What comes out of a person is what defiles them.  For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly.  All these evils come from inside and defile a person.'” (Mark 7:20-23).  Some of…

God’s Building From Start to Finish

cornerstoneGod is a master builder.   “For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.” (Heb. 11:10).  ” For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.  Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house, bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future.  But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house.  And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.” (Heb. 3:4-6).

He is building a Kingdom of people into a Spiritual house or temple.  “For we are co-workers in God’s…

One Man Praying

prayingmanAn impromptu prayer time was announced at church and I heard about it; as an intercessor I was interested to join with other intercessors.  Also, I was curious about how many would show up, and how it would proceed.  There was no announced time, so anything, including nothing might be seen.  I went, the carpet cleaner was busy noisily working to clean the carpets, no one was there, but me.  I prayed a while being a little disappointed as I  contemplated the scripture,  “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you…

Honor Everyone

1I Peter 2:17 instructs us to “honor everyone”.  This includes honoring with our submission to the king and governors (our governmental leaders) – verse 13-14; our masters (employers) – verse 18; wifes to husbands – Ephesians 5:22; the church to Christ – Ephesians 5:24; to one another – Ephesians 5:21; and to our Father and Mother – Ephesians 6:1.  As slaves of God we are commanded to submit to our earthly masters and authority figures even if they are wicked – I Peter 2:18.  It brings God’s favor upon us  if we endure grief from suffering unjustly and God’s favor is worth the suffering!

It is distressing…
