God’s Temple

incense-altarIsrael is an example to us today; all that happened, their choices, their delivery from enemies, their falling away from God, the building of the Temple, the Ten commandments, and all the rest.  We see in Israel God’s ideas delivered to them in great specificity and detail.  In regard to the temple, perhaps it seemed like King David’s idea at first, but God said no, and at the right time gave the plans to Solomon.  The temple was the dwelling place for God on earth.  In the temple were the, laver, the lamp, the show bread, and incense.  God’s presence was in the Holy of Holies, the innermost sanctuary where the arch of the covenant was kept, behind a curtain.

To Christians the presence of God is critical and central to our lives and being.  We believe in the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob, more accurately, God the Father, Yeshua Messiah, and the Holy Spirit.  It was God’s idea to create Mankind, male and female, in His image, among whom He would reside.  He appeared to the Patriarchs through Angels, Men, fire, visions, dreams, pillar of cloud and fire, smoke filling the Temple, then as a Man, Yeshua Messiah. When Yeshua ascended to heaven after His resurrection from the dead, He imparted the Holy Spirit to live in all believers, collectively the Church.

So, we see that God’s intention is fully carried out from start to finish, God in us, the Hope of glory. (Col. 1:27).

“Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.  In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord.  And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.” (Eph. 2:19-22).

This was Yeshua’s prayer the indwelling of God in man.  “My prayer is not for them alone.  I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.  May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” (John 17:20-21).

As to the practical working out of this indwelling, John wrote more specifically;

“This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence:  If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.  Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him.  And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.  The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them.  And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.” (1 John 3:19-24).

When we look at the world or our circumstances or get side tracked by suggestions of the enemy; reconsider the Holy of Holies, the inner place where God dwells, by His Spirit, through Yeshua Messiah, and return, take courage because God has taken for Himself a people in which to live. (2 Sam. 7:22-23; 1 Peter 2:5-10).
