Declining Trust

“Today, 25% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents say they trust the federal government just about always or most of the time, compared with 8% of Republicans and Republican leaners.”  (https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2023/09/19/public-trust-in-government-1958-2023/)

Are you surprised by these numbers? To put these findings in perspective over time, trust in Federal Government has declined from around 75% in 1958 down to these numbers. When the government announces that they are testing a new alert system which will send a message to your cell phone, what do the 75% of mistrusting democrats and 92% of republicans think of such a system? If you trust your government to usually do the right thing, perhaps it is a good way to alert everyone in the entire nation of a nationwide crisis. If you do not trust your government to usually do the right thing, you may wonder why our private information and location would be accessed and logged since weather events and disasters never impact the entire nation at once or to the same degree. You may question the government’s future use or dissemination of your private information and location. How will government control be increased or centralized by these “tests”? Will the government send you a message to turn over your firearms to the nearest federal facility? Will you be prosecuted since it will be assumed notice was given to everyone?

Trust is paramount to any relationship. Moreover, once it is lost or damaged repair is almost impossible. George H. Bush promised, “Read my lips, no new taxes,” then agreed to the biggest tax bill in history. Bill Clinton said, “I did not have sex with that woman,” and was found guilty of perjury in Federal Court. George W. Bush never offered any defense to the Democrat/Media’s unending accusations of his incompetence and warmongering in Iraq. Obama and Hillary said a video resulted in the killing of our Ambassador to Libya, when preceding communications proved they knew it was not true. Obama lied many times about Obamacare, most notably that it wasn’t designed to institute a one-payor system, when it was. The Trump investigation was a sham relying on fraudulent documents manufactured by Democrats. Trump’s second impeachment was such a sham the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court refused to be involved with it. How many lies have been told and supported by the Democrat/Media, without any admission, retraction, or correction? Joe Biden has lied about all his failed decisions from pulling out of Afghanistan to causing record high prices of gas to creating extreme inflation from ridiculous spending bills. How low can mistrust get before the people say enough is enough?

  1. To say nothing of the “J6ers” incessantly jailed and abused without trial by this Govt. as a warning to the rest of us.

When I went in the NAVY in 1972, my attitude was, “If you can’t trust the U.S. government, who can you trust?” By the time I got out six years later, I understood the correct answer to that question is, almost anyone else.
