“Shepherds for Sale” is a recent bestseller by Megan Basham about how certain progressive powerbrokers – from George Soros to the Rockefellers to former members of the Obama administration and others set out to incorporate globalist/woke/leftist views in evangelical churches and organizations for political purposes. Megan has for years reported on church issues for the conservative news and media outlet “The Daily Wire” and her book uncovers the behind-the-scenes political maneuvering of evangelical elites that have led venerated Christian institutions and publications down an unscriptural path. The book focuses on the Southern Baptist Convention and its church leaders, who Megan is most familiar with, but includes many others from organizations/churches outside the Convention.
The book outlines how many organizations and churches began adopting major unbiblical leftist social and political positions related to the Climate Change Cult, Illegal Aliens, Abortion, Homosexuality/Transgender, the Covid Lockdown Tyranny, and Critical Race Theory among others. She compares these false liberal positions to teachings in Scripture to show how these leaders either ignored or misinterpreted Scripture. Persons profiled include a list of some of the most prominent persons in evangelical circles today including – David French, Francis Collins, Russell Moore, Ed Stetzer, Tim Keller, Rick Warren, JD Greer, and Andy Stanley among many others. Collins and Anthony Fauci aided by Moore, Stetzer, Keller, Warren, Greer and French, pushed now-debunked government COVID demands into churches via the spiritually abusive application of “love your neighbor.” Collins famously called evangelicals murderers for not masking up while singing in church. Andy Stanley’s “Embracing the Journey” conference is part of Megan’s thorough examination of anti-biblical compromise on sexuality. Stanley’s willingness to “accommodate” the gay preferences of the culture and his stated willingness to even conduct a gay marriage and desire for Christians to quit studying the Old Testament and ignoring New Testament Scriptures on homosexuality is presented. Many other examples of false teaching and reaching for the world’s approval by these men and other persons/organizations are profiled in detail.
I highly recommend this book to all Christians. The writing is engaging and a quick read. The book is well researched reflected by the footnotes taking up 72 pages. Megan documents how even “conservative” evangelical churches and organizations have been infiltrated by false teachers. Bravo to her for this monumental and very much needed work. This book is an important reminder that our ultimate authority is the Word of God which is our plum line on the issues of life. Otherwise, when persons come to us with their messages and interpretations of the Word of God we are to “test the spirits to determine whether they are from God because many false prophets have gone out into the world” (I John 4:1).

It is shocking to hear this as scripture is not subject to changing values of society, but this type of heresy happened even in the First Century. (2 Peter 2:1-3)
