I have been involved in a lot of church work my whole life, but I consider Yeshua to be everything and the hidden life in Him. I was part of the Jesus movement revival of the early 1970's and I have a heart for Israel.

The Near Future

heavensgrocerystoretopWhen I get to heaven, I’m going to be able to play the heavenly instruments and write some music and sing songs that flow from the Lord.  Heaven will be populated with the redeemed saints, spirits of righteous men made perfect. (Heb. 12:23).  God will be there, nothing will separate us from Him and we will know as we are fully known. There will be no night there (Rev. 21:25; 22:5) because the Lord will be the light.  There will be no evil, no lies, no accusations or tempter.  The glory of the nation’s will be there, (Rev. 21:26; 22:3) the true goodness of each nation, each people

Differences in Felt Needs

11b59d9ad3e3f3279ffaf540b64bc0b5I have several married friends where the husband has recently retired and the wife continues to work.  I’m currently in that situation, as I was required to take early retirement, so I’m really rather young, good-looking, wise beyond my years, humorous,  and possess a vivid imagination – Ha-Ha, just kidding about all that, except retirement.  However,  I think I’ve noticed some characteristics that God means for our good and which the enemy twists to cause oppression.

Women generally have a higher need for security than men. Men generally have a higher need for affirmation and purpose or identity which is often derived, in part, from their occupation.  I refer to these “needs” as felt needs because God

Your God Is Too Small

41twsv0eq7l“Your God Is Too Small” is a book by J.B. Phillips.  My comments about the book will be in two parts, this being part 1, Destructive.  Phillips first debunks artificial concepts of God, thus using destructive as the negative focus indicates. Among his unreal God’s are the following:

Resident Policeman   Parental Hangover   Grand Old Man

Meek-And-Mild   Absolute Perfection   Heavenly Bosom

God-In-A-Box   Managing Director   Second-hand God

Perennial Grievance   Pale Galilean   Projected Image

Assorted; God in a Hurry, God for the Elite, God of Bethel, God without Godhead, Gods by any Other Name

Most of these

Trust and Obey

samuel_rebukes_saulSaul, first King of Israel is an example of what to avoid.   When Saul went to battle he was told to wait seven days, the time set by Samuel; but Samuel was delayed and Saul’s men began to scatter.  So Saul said, “Bring me the burnt offering and the fellowship offerings.”  And Saul offered up the burnt offering.   Just as he finished making the offering, Samuel arrived, and Saul went out to greet him.  “What have you done?” asked Samuel. Saul replied, “When I saw that the men were scattering, and that you did not come at the set time, and that the Philistines were assembling

The Evangelist

shanesandsThe Messiah gave the Church different types of ministries: Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, Teacher. (Eph 4:11; 1 Cor. 12:28-29).  In our day Pastors and Teachers seem to possess the mic and the stage, but I have known Evangelist and they are marvelous, or more accurately, the Spirit’s working in them is amazing.  I’m not referring to famous evangelists, but rather inconspicuous men who have a passion for sharing the goodness of God with others, as lead by the Spirit.  I mention the Holy Spirit

Temporal vs Eternal Life

8994638_f260In C.S. Lewis’s book “Readings for Meditation and Reflection in the chapter entitled, “The Christian and the Materialist”, the author observes,

“…a Christian and a non-Christian may both wish to do good to their fellow men.  The one believes that men are going to live forever, that they were created by God and so built that they can find their true and lasting happiness only by being united to God, that they have gone

Visions of God

cleft-of-the-rocksexod-34Moses was maybe the person who saw Father God most clearly, at least His Glory.  He asked to see God and God put him under a rock to protect him from a face to face encounter, then allowed Moses to see his back as He passed. (Exodus 33:18-23). Of course many people saw Yeshua, who is God in human form, when He visited old Testament patriarchs; when He was alive, resurrected, and through visions after He ascended. It is not by mistake that we have no description of Him from all these people.

Holy Spirit In Clay Jars

2corinthians4_7The Holy Spirit lives in every believer.  When Yeshua ascended to the Father, He left the Holy Spirit to dwell in His People.  This was fulfillment of the great prophecy that He would give His people a heart of flesh for a heart of stone; that His baptism would be with the Holy Spirit, rather than just water.  The Holy Spirit can be grieved, but He will never leave us nor forsake us.  He is not put off by our weakness, on the contrary He is made perfect in it.  He sees us as righteous because Yeshua is our righteousness.  The blood of Yeshua cleanses us from all sin.  All our sins have been cast into the sea of forgetfulness, removed…

We Cannot Out Give God

lwjas0037I can only think of three occasions  recording that Yeshua received gifts;  near His birth He was given frankincense, gold and myrrh; Mary gave him a foot washing of expensive perfume, and after His death Joseph and Nicodemus gave Him seventy pounds of burial spices.  He gave healing, deliverance from evil spirits, sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, even life from death to Lazarus and the officials daughter.  He gave His followers food, and two bountiful catches of fish to His disciples.  These were just a few instances, there likely were many more, as John asserts. (John 21:25).

You can not out give God.  Who has given anything to God, that he might be repaid. (Rom 11:33-36).  God owns…

Comprehending God

dd5884b427fdf65a1327a8ede6918027We are finite and limited in our understanding, but Yeshua came to earth to show us God’s love, his nature and character.  God is powerful enough to make himself known, in fact, it took the cruel death of His one and only Son to do it, so He did.

I was once asked, “What is your vision of God, how do you picture Him?”  I thought and had no image of God in my mind, even as I tried I could not imagine Him.  For years this was so, until one day…

Rest For Your Soul

imagesA soul that strives, that struggles, that is searching, that is tormented, that is self-reliant, that is lonely, is not resting. Yeshua said,  “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matt. 11:28-30).

We are to take on His service, casting off any burden the enemy would lay upon us through accusation.

“There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest…

What Happened to the Sacrifice

8a95b4b6dc0cb42e5146f0a856bfd45cThe sacrifice in the Torah has been fulfilled by a lasting, once for all sacrifice of the Lamb of God, His one and only son Yeshua, Messiah.  That sacrifice was the one to which all the rituals of Passover pointed. So, when the curtain in the temple was rent from top to bottom, as the spotless lamb of God died on the cross, the Holy place was opened, providing access to God, through Yeshua.  The temple was destroyed in 70 AD.; the sacrifice ceased at that time as well.

However, there is another scripture…

Inclusion Misinterpreted

imagesDictionaries define inclusion as the act or state of being included in a group or substance. It appears that this definition violates the rule that a word should not be defined using a variation of the word; thus some have redefined it for their own political advantage.  They use it in connection with their attempt to increase their power through division of American society by promoting and creating new and emerging “minority” groups. Inclusion is the banner and battle cry for these insignificant groups, (they use “minority” to suggest…

Christian Generosity

10629806_10152802987771502_2627790586416661400_nWe watched a portion of a TV travel show about flying over southern Italy.  It was very beautiful and the ancient ruins were visible in great detail from the areal perspective.  As they flew over Rome the great Roman Catholic cathedral of Saint Peter was pointed out as the seat of Catholic religion.  I thought, “if someone were in great need, this would be a place where help could be counted upon”. Then I qualified myself, although one may need to be a member of the Catholic church.

That reminded me of an incident when I  was attending University.  My parents had provided me with an older car they had once used and we’re paying the insurance…

Will you accept the Lord’s rest under His terms?

A Dream Awakened

img_0118I had a dream, waking abruptly, “It’s not going to be finished.”  I repeated.  I realized that in my dream I was dying unexpectedly and had a moment of consciousness immediately before death.  I said, “It’s not going to be finished.”  This was a realization of the inevitable truth.  The reason behind it is that our lives are made up of a string of events, hopes, dreams, desires, questionings, searches, tasks, quests, projects, travels, goals, wishes, etc.  One after the other, perhaps overlapping, but in sequence, such that, when the string is broken, it’s existence becomes strikingly apparent. This string is as light and thin as a spider’s web, yet…

John Adams

1200I just finished watching the HBO series of John Adams, based the book by David McCullough.  I read the book when it came out several years ago.  If you have even the smallest interest in history these are well told representations of John Adams life and times.  One difference in the book was that it portrayed Mr. Adams Christian faith as having a much greater influence than that presented in the TV series.  In fact, but for the abstinence of the Adams in French decadence, while the ambassador…

Feelings Show Our Beliefs

136af79226b137cce0f5ef3670282e95When we examine our feelings, or we cry out in emotion overflowing from feelings of hurt, anguish, disappointment, loss, etc., we are expressing what we believe to be true.  However, all we feel and believe is not necessarily true.  I may feel defeated in my walk with Yeshua, or deserted and ignored because I have failed Him and myself; I believe He has pulled away from me, because I am no longer worthy to be in His presence.  These feelings are real, my failings are real, and I truly believe my weakness has separated me from Yeshua, but those who…

The Just Shall Live By Faith

slide_77In Zephaniah 1:12 a pronouncement is given upon those who are settled in complacency, who say in their heart, “The Lord will not do good, nor will he do evil”.

This is an appropriate scripture for today as people, even those who believe in God, become complacent looking at and caught up in the world around us.  Where is faith in God’s active and real loving-kindness, providence, sovereignty and compassion.  As we repent and wait on the Lord in faith, He says, “I will leave in your midst a meek and humble people, and they shall trust in the name…

Resurrection

a791d04a54f0aa84fb158cd2a5226076Judeo-Christian teaching is full of the concept of the after life including much on heaven – the kingdom of God and some on Hell, Hades, and eternal punishment.  For Believers Heaven is our goal, to be eternally in God’s glorious presence, and “saved” from God’s wrath and eternal torment.  We are encouraged to think of our heavenly reward.

“For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed…

A Friend and God’s Faithfulness

6a00d83451e86969e2015437f17077970cI have a long time friend, who is as good a friend as one could ever want.  We were hired at the same time by the same organization. We went through divisional training together and worked together several times through the years. Early on in our respective careers, I noticed that my friend had a high concept of fairness and/or justice; consequently, when he was turned down for a promotion or special  assignment, he would object and dispute any injustice…

Liar! Do Not Listen

media_bias“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.” (Isaiah 5:20).

“A wicked person listens to deceitful lips; a liar pays attention to a destructive tongue.” (Proverbs 17:4).

“You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires.  He was a murderer…

Judgment and Tolerance

main-qimg-13a3e409d82e5c7dbd17395ae537ba88-cChristians invented tolerance and practice it as a general rule, even though world history may have some specific exceptions.  Of course Hitler claimed to be a Christian, but clearly he was not. Islam knows no tolerance, nor do humanists, atheists, and communists.  Liberal politicians and the liberal media (many of whom are humanists or atheists or socialists) promote “political correctness” and are intolerant of anyone…

This is Not Rocket Science

22I saw a very serious report on a major network national news segment discussing the plans necessary to inhabit Mars as an alternative to Earth.  Mars is a dry rock, without a breathable atmosphere, and incapable of sustaining any existing life.  Simple common sense shows there is no possibility of making it habitable.  The soil and environment will not grow any existing life.  Even in a worse case scenario , it would be much easier to clean up earth, all its water, all its air, all its soil, rather than attempt…

Mending a Broken Heart

cc3e73bf47d57b3d39deb3900b07789eThe Bee Gees great hit, “How can you mend a broken heart”, reminds us that our hearts are weak and this world is evil.  The enemy is doing all he can to kill, steal and destroy our faith in Yeshua and we are broken children of Adam.  Even so, there is truth and great reason to lift up our heads, because our Redeemer lives and ever intercedes for us.

“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious…
